Has anything changed in past 8 years now? Does anyone know if there are any plans for Costco to open a location in Milton? If not, how can we all persuade them to open a location here? Is there a way?

Milton has too small a population for it at the moment. I think they would want a 500000 population to entertain.

Yes, we’re nothing like the sprawling metropolis of Grimsby.

Land is probably too expensive and/or already slated for intermodal use.

I was not meaning we are small like Grimsby. However I imagine the biggest thing that stopped Costco would be land cost vs population when calculating possible ROI.

I might be wrong though its just an assumption.

That being said Im happy with Milton as it is. I love this place.

Grew up in Toronto. Since then have tried Mississauga and Brampton.

Very very Happy with Milton.

Costco would be nice I guess and to be honest I have a membership but I dont think I care either way. I dont go to it that often and if it was on James Snow Parkway I still wouldn't be there that often. If it wasn't for my significant other I probably wouldn't even bother with membership.

For our population size I think we have a great amount of businesses in the area.

More local private businesses would be exciting.

After they opened it in the middle of nowhere, pass Hamilton, it is clear what here is something personal. Someone who holds desision power has something against Milton.
Maybe firts love which left this person with best friend, some of them must be from Milton.
Here is no bissness wise desision in ignoring of Milton.
It is same size as Newmarket and Burlington. Milton has large families, who tends to buy in bulks.
And Toronto Outlets nearby have huge attendance.

One of the benefits Costco has is that it knows the home addresses of all its customers, and who is buying what from where. Since the people running the show are obviously not idiots, they realize there are a lot of people in this area but I assume they also see that Miltonians are willing to drive to the existing stores to buy their 1 gallon sizes of jam.

If you want a company to do things differently, you should stop giving them your money.

There is one Costco in Guelph and St. Catherines where the population may be lower than Milton. If the store can be opened in Guelph, why not in Milton?

I guess they realize lot of people may be traveling from Milton to other stores and economics of scale still did not make up? It may not be economics of scale, but availability of land with possible gas station?

Yeah cause you know all those other major metropolises that have 500,000 people
Like Burlington (185,000) Ancaster (35,000) Guelph (150,000) Vaughan - 2 Costco (300,000) Stoney Creek (60,000) Kitchener (200,000) Waterloo (125,000) Markham - 2 Costco (300,000) St Catherines (135,000) Ajax (110,000) Oshawa (160,000) Newmarket (80,000) London - 2 Costco (380,000) Windsor (300,000)

Even Mississauga is ridiculous as 700,000 = 3 Costco in city proper
Toronto which is far larger population wise just got their 6th Costco location

I'd argue 150,000 is far more than sufficient population wise (based on where they open locations)
Excluding Toronto nowhere close to us with higher density
Even highway access (which we have) seems not so important anymore

Why bother arguing this? There is obviously a reason (most likely based on their own revenue studies) that one has not been put in Milton. There is a ton of land available (privately but I'm sure could be sold for the right price), and there are a ton of developers that would jump on the opportunity. I highly doubt someone from head office Costco got beaten up when they were kids by someone in Milton, and that's what's holding it back. Simple economics...either they think it's a goldmine and one would already be here, or they don't think so which is why one is not here (for now).

The amount of research you put in to this is pretty funny.

Perhaps the fact that there are currently 10 locations within 40 km is a factor.

For all those who were inquiring why no Costco in Milton:

Here is the answer:

I got the Costco Mail this week inviting me to join the Mississauga Costco with about $50 goodies.

I have no idea how they got my name and address as it is not in the directory.

So you can see, Costco is targeting Milton shoppers to visit the Mississauga store.

What else needed as proof than this?

I believe they would have sent in this mailer to other homes as well.

I have one voucher for the $50 goodies and if anyone want, you can pm me and I can give it to you.

The breakdown of the mailer consist of Microwave pop corn, signature cheese pizzas, organic lemonade, $10 Costco Cash card and $10 Costco.ca online voucher.

It’s 20 minutes away. Costco people seem lazy.
