Post subject:  Cable Internet

Hello,

We will be moving soon to Hawthorne Village. I am very peeved that Cogeco is charging for install fees on both Internet and Cable, thus decided to look into alternatives. 3Web doesn't yet come to Milton, I know Cogeco is the only cable offering. Does anyone know of a different Internet Cable provider, and not DSL.

I'd appreciate your help.

Thank you.

Bryan :D

I was on the rogers website today and you can put in your postal code and it lets you know what is available in your area. according to that you can have cable, internet and phone internet (thier version of VOIP) in Milon the only thing it said was not available is thier regular home phone service....

Try calling maybe thier website is wrong....

When I was with rogers they had a install yourself internet cable kit.

In HV, I'm with sympatico and I also did the install yourself internet kit. I also have Bell Express view Satellite. I don't know what problems there are other than having to install modules on all the phone connections & satellite connections.

Well I thought that I maybe made a mistake so i went back on the rogers website and did a postal code look up to see what is availalb ein my postal code area (postal code L9T6X8, Bennett and Wickson Way Area) and it says that i can get thier internet phone service (like VOIP)and you choose your postal code 416, 905 etc., Long distance service, and Interent service the only thing that is not available is thier home phone service.

Maybe they have just expanded their boundaries.....

We are having Cogeco VOIP installed tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes, but will resist the temptation to document it like Tim (& Sandra) with numerous images. I just don't have that kind of time....

Ha, Paul.

I didn't document my internet install. Same with Satellite. I had it installed. I think I had a billion things going on after taking possession of the house

I definetly liked Rogers Digital cable over Bell Express Vu.

Look provides internet as well as TV in Milton.

I think there is a charge though because of the antenna needed to be mounted on your roof. My neighbor has it, I believe he is very happy with it.

Rogers does NOT service Milton for:
    TV Cable, digital or analogue
    Internet (which requires TV cable)
Rogers does service Milton for:
GSM Cell phone and pager coverage
    Magazine subscriptions
    Tickets to Blue Jays games
    And now I guess VOIP

TV cable is a monopolistic empire based on who wins the regional contract for building out and owning the infrastructure.

If you want TV cable in Milton, including cable internet, you call Cogeco.

Cogecos internet service, in my opinion, is excellent.

I don't want to promote any further confusion. If people want TV cable in Milton, they should call Cogeco. If Cogeco does not offer it for your specific street (unlikely), then they will tell you who the cable provider is.

I am not trying to promote Cogeco over Rogers.. I just want it understood that Rogers does not, at this time, offer any sort of residential TV cable service to Milton.

Maybe in the future.. not now.

Your post is quite clear. Alphastar is just confusing people. Of course Rogers has the ability to service milton, but it is not their assigned territory by the CRTC. Direct TV has the ability to service me in Milton, but they are prohibited, just like Rogers is.

When I was in Ottawa, depending which side of Bank street you were on determined your cable provider. in milton, if you want to puchase Cable from the street to your house, you have Cogeco period, end of story, there should be no grey area about that.

I have to burst everyones bubble now..........i was the one who posted earlier that if you put in your postal code on the rogers website it says that they service our area....I called and they DO NOT....so whoever said that maybe that postal code thing just registers the first 3 numbers/letters and it may not be accurate was right!
