If your like me and have no clue what you are doing for the unilities i thought that this may help
I just called Union Gas
You need to pay a 35.00 set up fee
You need to pay 250.00 deposit (returned after 1st year if you are in good standing)
Both the above can be waived if you sign up for both eqaul billing and direct withdrawal..not one or the other.....
the equal billing bill for a new home is 150.00 month...this is changed after a few months of winter usage so in about febrauary they will alter your equal billing bill to reflect your useage.
I aksed about the hook up fees that mattamy charges us (you pay for them through your lawyer on closing day) they are on the closing cost breakdown sheet. The gas guy told me that those "hook up fees" that mattamy charges are for mattamy they do not replace the 35.00 charge the gas company charges you....sounds like a mattamy scam to me....hook up is hook up.... so we get suckered into paying that fee twice i guess 
If you go on Equal billing the year begins in October so im my case (i close on june 15) if i go on equal billing i would pay as if i was not on it for June-October and in october the 150.00 month standard charge for new homes kicks in. feb. they change the amount to reflect your usage and you have to stay on it for 1 year to avoid the 250 deposit after a year you can cancel.
They need a min. of 2 business days to set this up...but call when you know you will not be delyed and have a firm move in date...
