My aunt and uncle were WAY into Amway when I was in College. They roped me into the business in the early 2000's. So I am well versed in the MLM they are running.

First, there products are some of the best cleaning and personal toiletry products i have ever used in my life. I mean there shaving cream can fill an entire garage bag with foam! Just don't get suckered into the vitamins... that is huge rip off.

Second thing i learned... it's almost impossible to change someone's spending habits. When you join Amway you have to build your own client list to sell to. You sit down write out the list of names you want to call with your Amway sponsors assistance. Then you invite the people over to your house or go to there house, with your sponsors, and they do the Amway circle presentation for you to your list of people... a basic education on the business model or as i called it... MLM fluffing.
But after a few weeks of trying, you quickly realize you are out of people to call, and now your sitting at home with your product kit you bought, and now no one to show it too... So you go to a few more meeting, and then you stop going altogether.

Or you could be lucky and one or two of your friends buy into the MLM and then your off to creating your MLM legs. The only that kept me motivated for as long as it did, was aunt and uncles sponsor was getting $15000 cheques a month from Amway because he had built up a really successful network of people... And I saw the cheques with my own eyes. And to top it off he was really small potatoes compared to some of the networks in the States! Our sponsor would introduce us to millionaire, after millionaire to keep us motivated. Long story short, i was a complete failure at building a network...

I'll tell you joining Amway as early as I did in life, actually really opened my eyes to dealing people, and I learned some valuable life skills; For example... When you talk to someone about something new, ie a new business venture, you have only 3 minutes of absolute polite listening before they fade away and stop listening. So now when i pitch anything to anyone, I alway make a solid 3 minutes pitch!

(listening new ward candidates? LOL)

:)

You were into the Melaleuca, right?
If you're already good at MLM, Amway is THE one to join, I've heard. If you weren't great at it, this will likely yield the same outcome.

I looked into all of these in my early 20s since the numbers intrigued me (being a math geek) but I quickly figured out I had no interest in 'selling' an idea to my friends and family, convincing them of the possible millionaire lifestyle in the process.
You need a certain personality to succeed, but if you are going to join any one, I'd say Amway is the one to join due to it's history and longevity.

Their products are products, decent quality, plain and simple, with enough margin built in to support the payment structure of the members.
It's almost like a religion - so don't buy your soap on sale at the Metro :) Members will say they are the best products you can buy. Non-members will say they're just ok, regardless of the product's actual quality.

Definitely not for me - those that have met me know I take the honest, laid back approach to selling, not the "Give me 3 minutes and I'll change your life" approach. IT's all based on what selling style you're comfortable with and good at.

Last point - see Wyl's 2nd sentence... "They ROPED me in"... I'd feel horrible doing that to a family member. A very good friend's dad did this to everyone, and he essentially isolated himself and has no family left over. Sure, his MLM was for calling cards and the pyramid crashed, but it had the same effect.
Anyone you 'rope' in will result in a payment to you. If they fail, will you give all of their money back? Will you feel bad about that? Will it negatively affect a relationship with a family or friend? If profit is more important that family, you'll do very well. If personal relationships are more important than profit, you'll have a tough time selling, regardless or whether it's Melaleuca or Amway, but we'll all like you better (hehe kidding) :)

Just my 2 cents....

I think that Amway is the perfect business for someone whom is optimistic, has the personality and can view the business as more than a pyramid scheme to which not here, but I have heard it referred to as before.

There are also different ways and avenues that you can run your own piece of the Amway pie. (ie) you may want to be more specific than just selling all products. Instead one might focus on the artistry side (cosmetics etc) or vitamins.

I agree with Wyl in that they have some of the best cleaning products around which we use.... its amazing what they can clean and be both enviro friendly. YES there are other friendly products on the market but IMHO they do not clean as well.

I find the vitamins and supplements excellent (there is a lot of saw dust on the market) LOL

Im not in Amway myself but I know a few people who are and I purchase the products through them (and in turn I get their discount). I dont find it as expensive as some are pointing out. I did listen to the business model and although I did get pumped and excited it did not fit my personality so I did not get involved directly with the business.
