Soooo. Our new house is set to close in November. We have a lovely lookout basement. I'm so happy with the big windows at eye level. Especially the large double window.....and the big ol' support beam right in front of it. Seriously? The builder has shrugged it off and said there is nothing he will do about it.
Anyone else have this?

What's that expression - a picture's worth 1000 words?

Upload a pic, and I'll bet you'll get a lot of good feedback.

Cheers,
Hunter

- if you have a lookout, they give you a very small deck with steps to ground level.
- I have a Juneberry.

But my question is, anyone else have this issue? Is it not a bit of a baaaad design or am I just being picky....I'll try to get a photo next time I'm there.

Where is the support post Amabelle? The standard location for the Juneberry is about halfway between the back wall bumped out section, parallel with the inner back wall. Not sure how much sense that makes, but I'm trying to describe the place that would be roughly under your kitchen table. Is your post in a different spot than that?

It is there, milton leo. But the post coming down is right in front of our large double window. Seems like a poor plan as there is lots of room between the windows if even the window was placed 6 inches over, or the post. It wouldn't be a factor except that we have a lookout so it's blocking the "lookout" feature. I was hoping someone else had a Juneberry or even another model with a similar issue. Wondering how much it is going to affect us when we finish the basement.

Aha, I see what you're saying now Amabelle ... you have two sets of windows on that back wall then right?

We don't have the lookout and we only have one window which is underneath the smaller kitchen window (so to the side). But your windows are more centralized and therefore blocked by the post I'm thinking. It does seem like they put them in a poor spot, when they could have just separated them more towards the end points. :(

I know justagirl has the Juneberry lookout too ... hopefully she will post where the windows are in her plan.

exactly, miltonLeo. It makes no sense. We have a double window, and then another window in that little spot that juts out and bam a nice post right in front of the window. A brilliant design. I think they try to line up the windows with the ones above but I'm still thinking that there is some room to work with figuring the window above is really large.
I'm trying to think that it doesn't matter.....but it's a big annoyance right now.

Hello Amabelle and Miltonleo, sorry I saw this post yesterday but was not home check my basement, so I didn't want to comment on the location. I'm not much of a basement person, so I'm not sure where my support beams poles are. :? I think the post is in front of that nook that comes inwards, but I can not say for sure. When I get home I will take a pic for you and post it.

I'll try to go by there today to take pictures, Pete. I will look forward to your analysis and commentary.
Thanks, justagirl. I'm anxious to see what they did in yours.

Awww sorry, justagirl, to make you find something you don't like about your house :(
It really is stupid though. All the builder tol us was to get an engineer in, pay a small fortune, and get it moved or some other brackets e talked about so we could remove the beam..... Right, I'll get right on that....I'm a bit busy now, though, watering my money tree.

Yes this is exactly where my post is... lol I can't believe I have lived in this house since March and never noticed this :? I'm not much of a basement person and will most likely never finish my basement so for me it doesn't really matter, but for those who do wish to finish the basement this is terrible. I don't understand why they would do this? I think they should move that window.
