GregoryL wrote: Our house in phase 13 closes in June. We have a smart meter installed already so I'd presume that phases after will be the same. I asked Milton Hydro about its implementation and was told that while the meter might be in place the actual use of the smart billing will happen in phases and that customers will be notified in advance of the change to the time sensitive billing.
Thats what I heard too, but I also heard from somebody talking to a hydro worker that was installing smart meters because the new houses didn't have them in yet. So for me it is conflicting. Tim |

We got our Smart meter yesterday. I noticed the grass was matted down near the neighbours meter and took a closer look and saw a "smart" meter. Pictures to come. Tim |

Can anyone confirm that this new meter is the smart meter?
This is what I had before.

All new homes in Milton as of ~2003 have a "Smart Meter". A "Smart Meter" being a meter that records your usage over a set period of time. In Milton Hydro's case its an hour for residential customers. These meters store the data and then upload the data nightly to a central server. The meters that were orginally installed on new residential homes were phone based "Smart Meters". At the time this technology was the best but we have had problems with the phone lines and getting data. The new meters that we are installing now are wireless mesh based "Smart Meters". They transmit data wirelessly to collectors which then transfer data to the central server. Milton Hydro is working on switching out all of the residental phone based meters with these wireless mesh meters by the end of June. After that Milton Hydro will be switching all "Smart" metered customers to Time-of-Use rates. You will be given notice by mail of when you are going to be switched from the tier rate structure to TOU rates. Notice is given 1 month before the rates go into effect. If you currently have a phone based "Smart" meter that is connected to a phone line you are able to view your usage online. Milton Hydro has a web application called eCare that allows you to view your bill online as well as your interval usage history (if you have a connected "Smart" meter). You can access it here. Have your bill handy if you have not signed up for an account as you need your meter number to get your password. |

The plan is end of June for an phone based interval meters. We just did a first run on 240 meters and have about 4,000 to do in June. |
