Sandra Hey Sandra, yep, that should work as long as you can find a rim where the bolt pattern and centre bore are correct, and that the 16" rims will clear your brake calipers. Is this a Nissan or Infiniti mid-size car? The only thing to be aware of when you change tire sizes is that your speedometer might be off a slight bit, but not enough to cause concern. |

Ah, great point about the brake caliper clearance! I don't imagine it would be a problem since you're downsizing the rim diameter from 17" summers to 16" winters. My summers are 205/55R16, but my winters are 195/65R15 (narrower tire on slightly smaller diameter rim). My user manual stated the range of tire sizes that could be used. Maybe take a quick browse through and see if there's anything specified in the manual about winter tire sizes or a size range. |

The Sonatas that were made in 2005 or older have only 4 lug nuts, while the newer ones I'm pretty sure have 5 like the Tucson. As long as the Sonata you're getting has 5 lug nuts, you should be okay switching wheels since both bore diameters are the same (67.1mm in case you need to know) and the bolt pattern is probably the same (5 x 114.3), and I doubt the brake calipers will be an issue. Good luck. Have a car friend or your spouse do a test-fit on the driveway if you want to be sure, or you're welcome to drop by my garage. I gotta buy some new winter tyres myself this season. I'm an extreme. My stockies are P225/50R17 but I go as small as P205/60R16! |

Hey Sandra, I just called my tire guys and your tyres and rims off the Tucson should fit your brand-new Sonata just fine. In fact, you can even go to a smaller tire size to save money if you want to buy new winter tires, like a P205/60R16, and then sell the P215/65R16 tires if you want, but to directly answer your question, you're fine swapping to the new car, so your call on how to move forward. Good call on the stealership not giving you an honest answer, because chances are they won't. They are in the business of making money. Have fun with the new whip. Wow, is Hyundai ever capturing the hearts and imaginations of young Milton shoppers these days. |
