Are there any plans for door to door mail delivery? Nothing beats having your mail at your door. If yes, how many years after closing does that take effect? |

Hmm... I think a lot of people on this forum would disagree with you there. |

Not having to pay as much for postage totally beats it Whatchu talkin' bout Willis? Our rates haven't decreased, in fact, every year or two the up it on us... We used to all get it - now we pay more for less service.... I know what you are going to say - it would be even MORE then we pay now... I tell you though, these carriers have it too bloody easy. A few hours of work and their done for the day AND to top it all off, they can't get the address right half the time. Can't tell you how much mail I've missed or others have been put into my box. Complain to Canada Post? Deaf ears my friend, deaf ears... Thank god we live in a time were most important documents like bills, etc arrive via email. I think I'd be in collections with everyone if it wasn't this case... |

Are you telling me that people in older neighbourhoods are paying a premium for there mail to be delivered to their door? |

MrBig Don't hold your breath for door to door mail delivery. Canada Post cancelled that for new houses years ago. The old neighbourhoods that have door to door will always have door to door. All new houses get the Super Mail boxes. There are no premiums paid by the older neighbourhoods, they are just grandfathered to door to door. Geer |

Hi Zeeshan First I've heard of that. My dad still gets door to door. That's in the 'Peg though. I'd have to check with some other people in older neighbourhoods around here to check. Geer |

Zeeshan Did some checking. "Old" Milton still gets door to door. As for changing from door to door to super mail boxes, Canada Post made a "promise" many years ago, 20 or so I think, that who ever had door to door would retain it. The reason I say 20 is that I was still living at home in the 'Peg at the time the super mail boxes first appeared. As for rural delivery, many communities have had the green mail boxes for years before the introduction of the super mail boxes. I think they've been slowly replacing those with super mail boxes as well. |

Personally... I'd rather do away with the mounds of junk mail rather then anything else. As it is, I pick up about 1-2 times a week and almost all of it is junk... what a huge waste of paper! I'd also like to see a more standardized time for delivery. It seems that the daily delivery is inconsistent (sometimes delivered in the AM, sometimes in the PM) and at times inaccurate (we've also received other people's mail more then a few times... )... I don't understand why everyone here is so against taking a small walk once in a while? It's not going to hurt you... really... |

I want to play "crazy forum guy"/devil's advocate here. And I may play BOTH sides of the fence while I do it!!! Just throwing this out there... To those who think posties are overpaid: Why would you want them to do even less work then? At least with delivery to the door, they'd be "earning" the money. With the superboxes, they're getting off easy! Next: Why are people so eager to wish other people out of a job? "They're overpaid/lazy/blah blah blah! They should all be FIRED!" How would you feel if I (or others) said that about you and your collegues? Next: If they ARE overpaid...Whose fault is that? Cetainly NOT theirs! In any market, you go for the maximum you can get, right? Blame the folks in charge who said, "Yeah. Taking a walk everyday is worth X per hour. Plus benefits. Now that I've agreed to pay you that, let's lessen your workload!" Talk amongst yourselves.

I thought they eventually switched to super-boxes where it made sense and do door-to-door where that makes sense (less urban areas). My parents street got switched to super-mailbox later. Before I moved to Milton, I used to live in East York / Thorncliffe Park area, and mail used to get delivered at our door (I was in an apartment building of 36 floors). I always paid same price for postage. I had a horrible experience with my mail delivery last week. I was expecting a package, and tracking record showed that the mail was delivered. Because it was delivered to the box, no more info was available. When I looked in my mailbox, usually they leave a key to the bigger box, I couldn't find anything. I enquired at the postal outlet, they got nothing. Ultimately, I had to ask the sender to start a trace with CP (crappy post), so that I could find out where my package went. Finally, three days after the trace, the key to bigger mailbox, magically appeared in my mail box, and I found my mail. |

In old milton we get door to door, by actual mail carriers, hired by the post office In the super mail boxes, the post office contracts out to delivery people, they get paid for delivering mail, not gas and not wear and tear on vehicles, ] It is also my understanding that the rural mail deliveries is also contracted out , but I could be wrong on that one' The people who deliver the parcels to your door are also canada post employees |

Don't blame the post office, this is the new system in every new subdivision in the province. |
