not that another glowing review of MDH is needed, but here's my experiance:

i delivered my first son in Trilium Hospital in mississauga (before we moved to milton). while my OB and the nurses were great - the big hospital was a hard place to rest. lost of "codes" over the p.a., and i couldn't get a private room cause they were all taken. so my husband couldn't sleep over.

my second son was delivered by Dr.Cvetic in MDH. she (and all her colleuges at that office) was wonderfull. since 4 of us were delivering that night and there were only 3 nurses (who were also great) she ended up acting as my nurse for my labour. i guess since i was only there for 2 hrs before noah was born, i was in the least need of a full time nurse. i doubt an OB in a bigger hospital would have paid so much attention to me... they just show up to catch the baby.
the big difference was after the baby was born - the maternity ward was so quiet and relaxing! i loved being there.

the only draw back of a smaller hostpital is that the anesthesiologist is only on call at night (large hospitals usually have one there 24/7). so if you want an epidural and you end up in labour in the middle of the night (don't we all!).. you may have to wait an hour or so. which meant i didn't have time to get one. the nurses were smart enought not to tell me that until after noah was born

anyway - all the best with your baby! it will be a wonderfull experience!

I dont have any children but have a firend who delivered at the Milton hospital. She said that it was great however.....they told her that hopefully everythings goes fine because they are only equipped to handle "standard by the book" deliveries so if something went wrong during labour they would have to air lift her to Credit Valley or just the baby if the baby was in need of something....in my experience i always have Murphys Law rearing its ugly head.....so Id probably opt to go to Credit Valley so at least if something goes wrong im already there.....
but if your luck is better than mine go for it..........GOOD LUCK!!

Mel,
Congratulations and I'm sure the staff at MDH will take great care of you. I don't think any word can describe what wonderful care I got with my two deliveries at MDH. It felt like "I was home away from home".
When my second son was one month old, I'd to rush him to the ER. They took such great care of him and me until we were transferred to Sick Kids hospital. After a couple of days, the nurses were still worried about his condition that they called Sick Kids hospital to find out how he was doing. When the hospital refused to give them any information, they called his family doctor and requested him to call us and find out if he is ok. That's called EXTENDED care. I was really touched seeing how they go beyond their duties to ensure that we are okay. You can't help it but feel as if they are part of your family.
Mary :)

I remember a few years ago McLean's printed an article with the top places in Ontario to have a baby... and Milton was right up there... can't remember the exact rank... but I believe it was in the top 3.
