Post subject:  what's wrong with my laundry?

I've noticed lately that my clothes has a watery rank smell to them after washed and dried. It's really horrible. Some of the clothes smell straight out of the dryer, like towels. Others could be clothes that I hang etc.

I don't know whats causing this. At first I though maybe the washer wasn't getting enough water and I still think its not getting enough water but that may not be the problem. I have the front loader machines.

Does anyone else have/had this problem? help pls...thanks

It sounds like the washer needs a good cleaning. Depending on the age, run it through a cleaning cycle with bleach. If no cleaning cycle, read the manual and follow the instructions for cleaning. I think on mine it's a normal cycle with bleach or a cleaning packet like what Tide offers.

Also, check the rubber thingy in the door. It probably has mold and mildew buildup. You can pull it back to see the interior of the rubber seal. Wipe it down with a towel. You might have to use some mold and mildew cleaner.

After that, leave the washer door cracked open so it can breathe and dry out when not in use, and wipe down the rubber seal thing every week or so. I also run my wash cycles now with vinegar (natural softener as well as helping with disinfecting).

I remember someone posting on here some time back about using a cleaner from Home Depot for jetted baths, but I've never been able to find the post again. I was also wondering if CLR would work. Anyone tried that?

Here's a few threads on front loaders, this smell is a common problem. Some people have found ways of controling it, I prefer the top loader

I also agree with the above mentioned post.

Run the clean cycle. Also, leave the door open when a load is done (just a bit) to let it dry out.
