Ok, scenario here and any help would be wonderful! Ok, to say the least....we have very let's use the word "strict" neighbours. LOL That's being super nice! They nit pick about anything and everything from the water draining from our lawn into theirs from rain to my 4 1/2 year old playing in the backyard and making too much noise at 1pm on a Saturday! I myself like to keep the peace but it's come to the time where I'm not going to be a push over anymore! Sooooooooooo, I wanted to know how to find out about the outer walls of your home. For instance, we are the end unit townhouse and our neighbours have put up their satelite dish on the side of our garage. Ya know, if they were good neighbours I wouldn't even think about this....but I want to know if I am in the right to ask them to have it removed? How or where could I find this out??? How do you know what outerwalls are actually yours?! Or are any of them at that??? Anyhow, might sound childish but I'd like something to throw back at her the next time she complains to me...probably about how she's allergic to the flowers we planted no doubt!!!! |

I assume they are freehold? look at your lot survey. If the walls are within your property line, they are your walls. Matt |

In a freehold townhome you own it all--- not the same as a condo townhome where you only own the interior walls |

What Matt said I think is right. But if it's placement doesn't bother you, then be careful because once you start tit-for-tat back-and-forth with a neighbour on items like this it doesn't really end, and just tends to escalate. Maybe try inviting them over for coffee & biscuits, or a outside bbq. I.e. reward their bitching with kindness and sincere warmth, sometimes has a great efect. |

Thanks guys! I do believe in "killing people with kindness"....but it doesn't seem to work with her! LOL She actually told me one day that it makes her sick to see me so cheery all the time!!!! We've tried the "friendly chat" and even offered them to join in on "deals" when we ordered soil etc. with our other neighbour! She's just not a friendly lady at all though. Just not in her nature to even crack a smile. Can the city or the builder provide the plan for the house that would be able to show me the lines? Yes, it is a freehold townhouse and we are the end unit and she is the 2nd house in. |

And if they do remove it, they will have to repair the holes in the wall. Maybe have someone else around at the time you ask them to serve as a witness of what was said. |
