Hi Sam,

You know what? I am not happy with the way they price out their services now. It could be just a bad feeling I got from the one I saw but they seem to do a lot of "sales pitching" For instance, when I went find a chiropractor to adjust me they had us do a consultation which involved a short movie and a whole lot of scare tactics. One of them was x-rays of "supposively" past clients. Explaining to us that Mr. so and so....was in a car accident and never took care of his problem and this is what he looks like now. Not to mention the fact that they stressed how back problems are all linked to our organs and if we don't take care of our bones that eventually our organs will not function properly the main one being ....the heart. Before we left the office that day they showed me my x-ray and geez I kinda looked like that poor guy from the accident! At the end they sat us down and explained how the payments work....which to me sounded like I was applying for a gym membership. You can pay monthly which will cost more with interest or you can pay in one lump sum ...but what a large lump sum! We were quoted $2,600 for a years worth of "correcting and adjustments" My health plan thru work only pays for the first $500. She did not discuss a "pay per visit" schedule....Mind you this is my experience and my opinion....but I do remember the good ol' days when you walked in and told your chiropactor where the pain was and he fixed it without pulling out all the marketing/sales pitches. The bad thing here is that I totally believe in chiropractors and holistic healing....rather then resorting to drugs and medications that usually only mask the problem at hand and not fix it. But this left a bad taste in my mouth. If you should find a good one in your search please send me a referal...I'm still looking.

:) thanks.

Wow Samantha that is one big move from Saskatchewan to Milton, Ontario. Good for you. I have family out there too. You will love Milton. There is so much to do and it is beautiful. Alot more traffic then in Saskatchewan but it's worth the hassle. Sorry 'bout the info on my chiropractic issue but like I said it was my experience. Hopefully you won't have to go thru that, and hopefully I find one that is not so geared towards sales and focuses more on the health and well being of his/her patient.

Happy moving!
Terri

I go to a FANTASTIC chiropractor in Milton. His name is Shaun Demeris and he is at Carriage Square Chiropractoric Clinic (right downtown Milton). I have a back problem that really comes and goes. Sometimes I go six or seven months without having to be adjusted and he is totally fine with that. He charges $30 a visit, but unlike other chiropractors I have spoken with, he spends a minimum of 30 minutes adjusting me and making sure that everything is how it should be.

There is no sales pitch for you to become a constant visitor to his office - and his hours are great! I work in Toronto and he was one of the only doctors in town who offered evening and weekend appointments.

I highly recommend him.

I think the difference is some chiropractors are a cross between physiotherapists and a masseuse (I don't mean this in a derogatory way, its just the best analogy I can come up with at the moment.) These chiropractors focus on physical pains caused by your back. They adjust you, and you feel better, and with everything back where it belongs strained bone and muscle tissue can heal. Some times you need to have a couple visits to work it out, but they work towards long term healing of acute problems.

On the other hand I you have chiropractors who are more holistic/spiritual types. They often claim to treat all disease and illness indirectly through manipulation of the back. I'm wary of that kind of practitioner because they impart a false sense of security on their patients, by claiming to treat nearly all ailments, even those which should be dealt with by a trained doctor. This $$$ clinic sounds like that and more, because they want to lock people in for long term payment plans, and not heal what ails them.

My personal opinion aside, there are a number of the first type of practitioners about, who charge between 20-30 dollars a visit, one already mentioned above, and I know my wife had a couple sessions with one when she lived in Guelph. She paid $30 for her first visit, which included a complete assessment (from the pains in her back, to an evaluation of her feet and walking style to see if they may be making the problem worse.) Each subsequent visit for an adjustment was $20, which is really quite reasonable.

So I would say, all you have to do is ask around and I'm sure you will find someone who works for you, but you already have. :)

Jubilee- I will call your referal. My husband and I actually walked passed it one day while at the Shoppers Drug mart. I would much rather pay as you go, then make such a large $$$ commitment.

Samantha- I totally agree with you about the difference here and Saskatchewan...my grandparents lived out there and omg how bored I was as a teenager spending most of my summers out there. One good thing is you can watch your dog run away for three days!!!! Too bad I didn't have a dog! Sorry I couldn't resist!

Biff- Are you serious? If you don't use up your money's worth they will not reimburse you?!.....phew thank goodness I didn't go with it! That is bad. As much as I would love to get rid of the neck and shoulder pain I endure every single day.... at the moment I can't afford to make any large commitments. I got a MORTGAGE!

Maybe all of us broken down ppl will meet one day at Dr. Demeris office!
