Every single door in my house squeeks when you open or close it. Am I the only one? I assume it is just humidity or something but now I got to wd-40 every door this weekend.

many of ours do as well. i've lubricated them with the dry carbon-based stuff which seems to help for a few weeks, and then the squeek slowly creeps back. i might try switching to WD40 to see if that lasts any longer. it's been going on in our house since we closed in november.

btw: is it normal for the house to have shifted so much in 6 mos. already that there is already friction in the door? we have double doors to our master bedroom and opening/closing the one side is a pain as that narrow piece of wood that acts as a "seam" between the doors rubs against the top door frame.

our doors seem to not have shifted. They do not rub, just squeek! We can;t check on the kids anymore because it wakes them up. I will try WD-40 but not sure if it will drip on the carpet, I suspect I will have to pull the peg out, lube it, then put it back in the door hinge....

If anyone knows of a better, cleaner, more permanent way to grease the doors, please let me know,

we have to do ours every year, and we've been here for just over 4yrs now....I think it has to do with a combo of settling and humidity, etc. We use WD40, no problems, no spillage.....just sprayed it right on the hinge as is.

We had the problem after a few months of moving in. A spray with WD40 and over a year latter, still silence.

I wonder if that will work on my wife!!

I had the same problem with my front door.

First tried silicone spray, but that gave the ghost in a week.

Second tried WD40 spray.

Thrid tried WD40 again and since then is not squeeking.

I put a kleenex under the hinge and give spray to all the cracks, then open and close the door a couple of times & wipe off the excess.

If this doesn't work I'll have to try some 3&1 oil or something...maybe some synthetic???

Yes. Remember when the house was built, it was built with new materials.. full of moisture.

Now that those materials are drying out, they will want to shrink, twist, or warp, but their fasteners are holding them in place as best they can.

There will be some shifting and some drywall cracking. This is normal for these types of houses.
