Nitu, From what I read on previous posts about air conditioners, most reputable dealers assume the furnace warranty when you buy the air conditioner from them. It does not matter what the make is. The air conditioner does not have to be the same make as your furnace.

Guys, I know that the rule of thumb is 1 tonne per 1000sqft, but I was hoping to ask those of you with previous experience...

If my townhouse is 1850 sqft, do I buy a 2 tonne unit? Or should I get a 1.5? Will I notice a difference? I don't mind paying, if there's a good reason for it, but I'd like to ask those who've been there done that before, first.

Based on the wonderfully extensive reading material here on the forum, I 'm fairly sure want to invest the extra cash in a 14 SEER PURON unit - whatever size I go with. I'd like to get the best unit for my size of space, though, and was hoping for those who prior experience who might be willing to PM me and/or share.

I know people personally who say go with the 2 tonne, others say the 1.5 is fine, and being a first time home buyer, I'm a little over-obsessed, I know. But I guess it can't hurt to ask. :)

Cheers,
Daphne

Check what your A/C Company says. See if your house would be ok with either a 1.5 or 2 ton unit. Then see what the price difference is between the two. I think from 1.5 to 2 there isn't that much of a price jump.
I think the biggest price jump is from 3 to 3.5 tons. Also go with your personal preference on the pros/cons between the 2 (The A/C company can explain them more to you).
