Hi everyone -

If you haven't heard about Kimm's situation as of yet, Kimm is a local mom of a seven year old and nine year old. She has stage 4 brain cancer and was given two months to live. A drug, Avastin, can help prolong her life by a year to a year and a half, however each treatment that is required every two weeks is just over $3000 and it is not covered by OHIP. It is a drug that is covered in three other provinces - it is not a matter of Kimm moving to another province to be eligible to receive the treatment for free.

Here are some of the recent reports about Kimm's situation - it has been covered by a wide variety of new channels:

There is a goal of $100,000 to help Kimm get treatments for one year. Donations can be made at: http://www.gofundme.com/4vidz4.

There are two fundraising events scheduled. One at Shoeless Joe's: https://www.facebook.com/events/2221135 ... 3/?fref=ts

The second one is a comedy night in Burlington on Friday November 29th at Club 54 on Harvester road. Doors open at 8 pm and show starts at 8:30. Ben Guyatt is the comedian and tickets are $20 with all proceeds going to Kimm. If you are interested in tickets, please let me know.

Thanks everyone for your kindness and generosity.

Here is an update from Kimm:

"With the incredible support from friends, family, strangers, media and our MPP, I have happy to say that we never imagined to reach our goal of six months but we did. The one year mark was our second goal and we are close. After visiting with my Dr. on November first, since my last MRI, our first Avastin treatment, the tumour has not gown. So what has been rapid growth now has shown no growth! Yes treatment is working, yes round 1 win! Yes Deb Mathews more evidence! Thank you. Kimm"

Please donate and share this link, if you haven't already: http://www.gofundme.com/4vidz4

Thanks everyone!

I'm saddened to hear this. I have supported her fund drive and I hope that I was able to help to extend her life through the fund drive. My condolences to her family.

Very sad indeed. My heartfelt condolences to the family.

I hope after reading/watching this story, Ontarians will learn there lesson, and elect the government that will help the people rather than themselves.

If and when Liberal candidate from Milton shows up on my door asking for vote, I'll be sure to bring this topic up to get her views on it. I am sure I will get a political answer to the question, however, I will definitely ask.
