So for most of us who live in HVE, the houses behind us are not too far and one can easily gaze into each other's home if your blinds/curtains are not drawn. I notice most homes behind us have their blinds shut 24x7. Even we do that most of the time except occasionally to open them. Hence you get a very closed feeling. Just wondering if there are any solutions where we can see out but not viceversa .. in day or night. Or has everyone just got used to having shut blinds? Like those criminal interview rooms which have mirrors And please avoid all the jokes ... and I don't spend my time gazing at neighbours windows |

Knowing that most windows are closed all the time, we usually just leave ours open. Really, who's looking? |

Home Depot has some one way tint. There is a display near the counter for windows and doors. I think there are business cards there for an installer too. Tint is not something you want to do yourself after age 17. |

Jay Markusich, 905-875-4192, at Flim Inc. He put privacy tinting on most of our windows including our bathrooms, the kitchen bay window, great room and all the bedrooms. You can be standing right outside the window and you can't see a thing inside, yet it still lets in natural light. Doesn't work at night of course so you will still need to have a window coverings for nighttime, but during the day you can have the window coverings wide open with complete privacy. After seeing it, one of our back neighbors had their house done by Jay too. His price was very good and he guarantees his work; we were really happy with his service. BTW, he also does security film (the kind that won't let someone break the pane) ... we had that installed on our all-glass back door. |

^^ during the day, you can't see inside most windows from outside even without a special film. When its darker inside than it is outside (daytime), then you can't see in. When its lighter inside than it is outside (night time) then you can see in. |

they make lots of light filtering shades.
you can either lift them complete, keep them down with letting light in, or keep them down without letting light in typically these blinds are expensive |

I would go crazy if my blinds were closed all day. I open them first thing in the morning and close them as soon as it starts to get dark. No one can see in in the day anyways. We also planted a lot of trees in our backyard and I am shocked at how big they are getting in just 3 years. If you plant a spruce in the corner of your yard you will get privacy all year long as well. |

I frosted the window in a door at my house with self-adhesive stuff form Ikea. It comes in a roll and it's very easy to do yourself, though if the window is big you might want an extra pair of hands. It was less than $10 a roll and my window took about a roll and a half. It's easy to remove if eventually decide that you don't like it or want to change it. It lets natural light in and from the outside you can just see shadows. |
