I'm having a problem with the water drainage from my house to the catch basin on the road. When the temperature drops below freezing there is a patch of ice that freezes on the sidewalk (which is a safety hazard) I spoke to the builder and they told me there is nothing they can do to fix this problem, does anybody have any recommendations/suggestions on fixing this problem?

Thanks

Salt your sidewalk.
The water has to drain somewhere so you cannot prevent it from going on the sidewalk.

No, your lot is graded away from your house to direct water to the front and the back as well as to the swells on the sides which direct it to the front or back. Not much you can do. Expecially if the ground is frozen it will just run off.

that sucks. thanks for your input, thats basically the same answer the builder gave me. I just find it frustrating because other homes that i walk by don't have any issues (there were a couple of other homes that have the same issue as myself)

Designers put the storm drain on the street about 60 feet from my property, around the corner, I dig a trench along the curb to the drain and avoid the ice buildup. Sucks to be me.

+ the snow plow stays well clear of the curb, so the drains are usually buried under the windrow.

I think i saw you the other night doing that...i was wondering what the hell you were doing...very smart, good idea but gotta be back breaking.

Forget about the builder - for now.

You must call the Town of Milton Engineering Department at 905 878 7252 extension 2582. This should be done now while the sidewalk is covered with ice.

One of the main goals of municipal lot grading plans is to ensure that sidewalks do not get covered with ice.

If required, the Town will make the builder fix the grading.
