The gym that I go to, PUR, seems to have a slight problem with getting fitness instructors, to teach classes. Or so I hear. I just found out this week that we're going to be down another one, and since I love to go to classes (step, powerflex, etc) I wanted to just put this question out there.

Are you a fitness instructor looking to teach a class here in Milton?

Angela

Are they looking for women instructors only for cardio-type stuff? What's the clientele like there at PUR (Older individuals? Hardcore fitness folks? Moms who want to get back in shape?)?

I don't have official certification as a personal trainer (it's just a piece of paper, IMO), but I do work as a researcher in the fitness industry, and have been published recently in international fitness magazines. I know my sh!t when it comes to fitness, and can design programs. Let me know what you think.

If the gym is concerned about legal issues vis-a-vis hiring only certified personnel, then I won't be the right guy in that case (many gyms hire uncertified trainers and "nutritionists").

My wife is a certified personal trainer and certified in a few other things too.. I shall pass it on.

It's more than just a piece of paper, she worked hard for it :)

Sorry, I didn't mean it that way. I know she worked hard for it.

What I really meant was that some people will study to get the certification, and then forget everything they learned afterward until re-cert., and don't have a raw passion or know the intangibles that separates them from a bona fide trainer vs. a run-of-the-mill trainer. 8)

Hey guys,

I was wondering if any of you could help me out. I have been looking into becoming a personal trainer. I have been reading the self study CPTN book. I can only do it part time because I have a full time job that I need to keep right now. I am a Paramedic so I do have some background. Any advise on where to start or what courses to take? Thanks

You study off that textbook you have, and on the CPTN webpage, you can register to write a test. I think if you get over 75% on that test, there's a practical portion that you go through. I'm thinking about doing it myself next year since it'd be a cool job to do on weekends or on the side, and it would complement my career, which is in nutritional supplement research.
