Why? We already know they can counterfeit a plastic credit card with a chip, how hard could it be to copy these new bills? |

It's the magnetic strip that gets compromised. |

Quote: While the plastic bills will cost nearly twice as much to produce compared to those currently in circulation (19 cents per bill versus 10 cents for the old version), the new plastic currency is said to be 2.5 times more durable.
Not that I am trying to criticize the approach ... they will cost us twice as much, and will last 2.5 times much longer ... so we will only acheive 0.5 times more for the price ... also, they didn't specify how much will it cost us to get rid of the existing bills in circulation ... may be in the far long run we might see benefits or ROI, but right now, I don't see any benefit for using plastic based currency. It is just another way of keeping BoC busy and they thought they had to do something ... but really is this something that worth it? I don't know. May be it is. |
