Last week I had the opportunity to spend a few hours with the Toronto Police Marine Unit taping a video blog on water safety.
It takes so little time to educate yourself about being safe around water whether it be lakes, rivers or pools. Yet last weekend two more people died in water related incidents in Ontario.
Don't let this type of tragedy hit us here in Milton. Please take the time to learn how to be safe around water.
www.redcross.ca If on the water always wear a life jacket. The new models are very light and non-constricting.
NEVER ever leave children alone by the water.
Look at your child's face. Look at the space between the end of your child's nose to their mouth. That is the depth of water that could drown your child.
I was a Paramedic for a dozen years and have tried (mostly unsuccessfully) to revive children left alone "for just a minute". I vividly remember three infants who drowned in their plastic bath basin even after parents drained the bath water. There was enough water on the baby to drip into the basin to form a puddle. deep enough to drown the infants It pains me to read of so many needless water related deaths.
Please take care of yourselves around water and always ensure children are supervised properly.
