Can anyone confirm if:

Mattamy's plumbers put in water shut offs on all lines.

ie hot and cold lines to sink fixtures toilets etc

Or do we have to upgrade this?

Now why would this be an upgrade.

Shouldn't that be a standard item?

If this is the case, then it should be pretty easy to install your own after the fact right?

$6 worth of parts and about 12 minutes of an experienced plumbers time. So say $60 per house. $60 * 400 houses = $24000.

Nickel, meet dime.

The toilet has to have a water shut off?

I just found out.

The toilets are standard with a water shut off

The $42.80 upgrade is per fixture ie 1 hot and 1 cold shut off.

P.S. I thought I would forget the hassel and have Mattamy do the work for me :D

Went visiting a friend's house (who did not upgrade shut offs) in Phase 10 and guess what? There were shut valves to sinks and toilets!!!

Probably another one of those things, where you upgrade and pay for them, but they were just standard anyway... :) And you'd never know... cause whose gonna look under your neighbours sink to know any different?

Hahaha I love how builders sucker us sometimes..
(Good thing we didn't upgrade!)

Now that should be a standard that every "good" builder should do.

NOTE: If you get Corian, it comes standard with a hot and cold water shut off. I don't know if this is also true with granite. For those of you who are buying granite, please check your upgrade list and see if it is included.

I was able to look at an almost finished house and verified these plumbing shut offs

The master ensuite has a shut off on the toilet

The master ensuite sink without shut offs.

The 2nd floor bathroom sink without shut offs.

The kitchen sink without shut offs, but has outlets for the dishwasher and the dishwasher has a shut off.

The main floor sink without shut offs.

The 2nd floor laundry tub without shut offs.

Personally, for the $42 bucks per individual sink shut offs upgrade, I think it is worth it. Just remember with Corien and probably granite counter tops, you get one set of hot and cold FREE shut offs

Tim

PS On a side note. The laundry tub looks straight forward...I think I can do that one.

For Phase 11 I paid for every shut off valve and we have a granite countertop. You didn't get a shut off valve automatically because you have corian or granite countertops. I would double check this with the design centre.

Ahhh, thats what I thought.

Originally I bought shut offs for everything (but the laundry tub...because I forgot about this one!!!) And even my design consultant didn't see the error, or the person above the design consultant that checks to see if all the money is correct. but I went over my upgrades and in the fine print of the corien countertop, it said it came with the shut offs. So I cancelled this.

I bet many people make this mistake and pay extra. But when Mattamy makes a mistake they get it corrected and we still pay extra.

Check your granite upgrade section. You may get $42 bucks back
