Post subject:  car insurance

Hi guys, wondered if anyone could help.

DH and I immigrated from Scotland to Toronto almost 4 years ago. We have full driving licenses which the govt swapped out with our own. (I had 17 years with no accidents in UK)

Ive never had a car accident and drive a 2010 toyota corrolla. The car insurance is $3500 per year with td. Ive shopped around, State farm were close to $4000 per year.

Anyone got any insurance companies they can recommend that would provide a better quotation.
Thanks in advance
Tracey

Try AXA. I find they gave me best quote on car & house. Spriggs in Oakville is one agent but you probably could find other agents.

Get a online quote from Kinetix.ca or insurancehotline.com. They will compare a lot of companies for you. TD has a reputation of starting cheap and rising fast afterwards. RBC has pretty good rates.

I have sent so many people to Miltowne and they have been able to find better insurance deals for everyone! Give them a try as they are brokers and will look around for what is best for you.

Try belair direct

The go to place for young drivers with no exp, might be cheaper for you with no exp history.

bottom line is you need to transfer your history somehow

I have been with PC insurance for several years-they have several companies they deal with. I have a good rate and have had great service. As with other companies, insure more than one product and discounts can be had. These discounts add up to a huge savings!

A friend has been with AXA (pp mentioned this co) and has has good service and good rates. She's an agent and got some quotes for me....AXA was comparable with what I have from PC (Pembridge Auto). I stayed with PC b/c overall-house and both cars-it was slightly cheaper (if I remember correctly??) and wasn't worth the switch.

Btw....altogether I think we pay approx $3300-3400/yr for two cars (with a couple additions to regular policy that maybe add up to a couple hundred for both of us) and a few hundred of that should disappear when my hubby's ticket goes away (wasn't a major one), and house insurance.
($$ should be close....can't recall exact amt right now)

I am and insurance agent with allstate. I know we will give current Canadian experience plus 3 years if you have a drivers abstract from scotland, as well if you have a letter of experience from your insurance company in scotland that would help lower costs as well for you. I would love the oppurtunity to provide you with a quote and see if I can save you some money. PM me if you are interested.

Try calling Western Assurance (google for their number) and ask them for an agent in Milton for a quote. We were with another company for years but this year we shopped around and found this company the best as we are now paying $500 less between our two vehicles.

Are you part of any professional group? IF so, you can try getting a quote from Meloche Monnex. It is a TD company, but does group insurances only.

So far, I haven't seen anybody with lower rates than them.

My friend is with Johnson Insurance, and says they are good with rates too. You can try them out:

Good luck.

That is ridiculously high.

Our policy for both cars is almost half (& wife is really still a newer driver)

There are many discount programs available (everything from university alumni to union affiliation) that can cut your rates way down

Thank you everyone for replying and the PMS. DH pays more than me, so glad to know that I am not moaning unjustly. I will look into my options now.
Thanks again
