Hello, Is anyone installing their own deck or patio after taking possession? What are the pro n cons with Deck/Patio? Is their anyone reliable person in Milton who install deck/patio? Currently, We installed a deck along with the help of my neighbor which was very economical and great. But I was thinking of patio in the backyard since we purchased Shady Glenn a.k.a Pottington. Any feedback would be appreciated. Trini |

Hi Trini We will be putting in a stamped concrete patio (Patterned Concrete - Mississauga). We have one at our existing home and have very happy with it. Derek & Ruvani |

Deck is raised from grade while patio is at grade level. |

Hey all! We currently are in Mississauga in a semi and with our yard being so small.....we decided to do interlocking throughout. Man, what a difference compared to our neighbours who did just patio or deck. We went back and forth with patio, deck style...and interlock and in the end made the right decision AND made our yard look much bigger! We also have a dog, and didn't want him to ruin what little grass we had. We designed the yard with retaining walls and two level gardens with bench seating throughout. Was the best thing we did to the current home and will be a HUGE selling feature. It is a friend of ours who does interlocking, decks patio's and other types of backyard landscaping. He managed to do it in 3 days while we were at work.......I can pass you his info if you are interested - really reasonable prices! - just let me know. |

We have the lookout option and will will have to see if we can expand on it to make a larger deck. Tim |

Hi Tim, You should take a walk around the outside of Hawthorne Village south just East of Thompson Road and South of Clark. There is a relatively new walking path from which you can view many homes from earlier phases with lookouts. Some of them have stunning decks that maximize the use of space both up top and below. Trini, personally I prefer a patio - keeping it as low as possible in a neighbourhood with homes so close together. Our current neighbours behind have a beautiful deck, but it's a good thing we're friends because we can see them from the waist up when they're standing on it. Also - decks require a bit more maintenance as the years pass, staining etc. Jen E. |

When you purchase your home, some have a lookout. I believe it has to do with the grading being lower at the back. Your patio door opens up to approx 4x4 or 4x2 foot little deck that has steps down to the backyard. Tim |

I know when we were at the sales office and were choosing the lots, the list that was provided showed which houses had lookouts. Later when we signed the forms at the sales office they provided us with the drawings of the house and one of them showed the look out option. Tim Gee, let me know if you want some pictures posted and I'll help you out if you don't have server space. |

Hi Bonnie, Yes - the lookout is definitely a feature that is known before the houses are sold. There is usually a premium - around 7k when we bought. We didn't have this option when we bought our house, but would have loved a lookout! Jen |

Hi Gee, If you have pictures that you want to post on the site, you can email them to me (rick@dilorenzo.com) and I'll get them on for you. Or...If you have your own website, you can post pictures into these forums by putting in the url of the picture on your site into your post and then highlighting the url text and clicking the "Img" button which is one of the selections when you are posting a message here. For most people though this won't work because they don't have a webserver they can upload things to. So in this case just email me the pictures and I can put them online for you. |
