Every friday morning at 10am, there is a breastfeeding support group at Our Lady Of Victory School at 540 Commercial Street... follow the rainbow foot prints to the side door.

It's an awesome group.. amazing support and it's FREE!

Absolutely not! I see preggo's in there all the time! It's a great way to get the information and support you need to prepare you for breastfeeding your little bundle of love.

Congratulations btw! How exciting for you!

Yes, you will be AMAZED at how much this community has to offer.. definately utilize it!

The support group is more for discussion and support.. I think the classes would be a great way to prepare you.

Pre-natal classes are far from a necessity. If you're interested I have some of the literature from the region classes (I never made it past the second class due to miscarriage then never signed up for my subsequent pregnancies. You're welcome to what I've got. I've got a paper back ring bound booklet on Breastfeeding from McMaster, What to Expect when your'e Expecting, and somewhere I've got The Mother of All Baby Books.

You should be able to get any of the literature offered by the Region pre-natal class instructors through the Milton Community Resource Center at their Resource library.

Here's a link you'll find good as well. This BC publication is what the Halton instructors were using for the pre-natal courses. Not sure if it's still the case but it's a good reference anyways:

One last awesome resource for breastfeeding - Dr. Jack Newman's breastfeeding institute in North York. Some great information sheets and video clips. I found them to be very useful!

Wishing you a happy and comfortable pregnancy! Congratulations!

My wife and I did prenatal classes with Lorraine at http://www.birthingandbabies.com/

I 'think' it was around $200 for the weekend class we did, but it was informative.

We did the free Halton classes - held at the Meadowvale Town Center health offices - was good enough for us! once per week for 4-5 weeks I think it was. Wednesday nights.

We did a prenatal breastfeeding class at Milton Hospital. It was a very useful workshop with Jill Hicks, the lactation consultant.

There is also the La Leche League in Milton. The meetings are free (you can become a member if you choose for 25.00). There are evening meetings the third Wednesday of every month at MCRC.

The Milton Public Library has Jack Newman's book and video- definitely worth checking out too.

good luck!

Between Halton Public Health, Jill Hicks breastfeeding classes (and you can also make an appointment with her and have one on one time at the hospital) and all the literature you can buy in book stores and read on the internet you should be fine. I found those classes to be very expensive! My husband and I opted not to take them. Also, if you have family or friends who recently just had babies, use them a resource as well. Those classes can give you a general overview of what to expect but each baby and scenario is different and you won't really learn until your baby is born.
