Current projections have the Halton waste management site on Hy 25 open until 2031. What will the region do with it after that?

In Bramalea, they turned a big pile of garbage into a kickass ski hill and called it Mount Chinguacousy. (You see, if you put Mount in the title it makes it seem even bigger.)

Hi 2ndline

The forecasts for the landfill site now expect it to be still operating to 2040 with extended recycling programs, composting and landfill reclaimation which is being done in some municipalities. The original certificate of approval in 1990 was for the landfill site to be returned to agricultural use. Also the Region has to maintain ownership in perpetuity similar to a cemetery use.

Members of the Landfill site advisory committee are also suggesting such uses as greenhouses using heat extracted from the methane from the decomposing garbage and other agricultural uses along the edges of the property while the landfill is operating.
