Hey Folks,

So I find out now (1 month before my move) that Rogers doesn't support Milton and I'd have to go to another company.

So...... What do you all use, what do you pay and thoughts on why to go one way or another.

Just for reference, I'm an IT geek and love my techy stuff so I want high end plans.

What I have now:
Rogers
Digital Cable With PVR
5Mb high speed internet connection

Now I need to replace this when I move in a month to Milton as they don't have Rogers
I did some research already and got these numbers and advantages

COGECO
$120 (Approx) for same service as above
PROS
Cost
Good internet speed (5mb)

CONS
Internet Capped at 15Gig per month (Big issue)
Additional cost for any specialty stations

BELL
sympatico $44.95 per month
expressvu $64 per month (movies plan) plus $10 per receiver (confusing on the website so correct me if im wrong)
PROS
Dish already installed and left at new house so maybe a savings (Anyone tell me if this is right?)

CONS
Slower internet speed

Any insight is appreciated

Just one small note, with Cogeco when you get the TMN Moovie Network you get MOD (Movie On Deman) for free, with Roger it was not free (2 years ago was last I checked, might have changed).

As for the Internet cap, it is not a har cap, they use it only if you go consistenly above it or there is a lot of upload activity (possible P2P)

Yea id love the 10MB but isnt it like double the price?

As for the caps I DLd 85 Gig last month on Rogers. I can easily cut that though.

TMNOD is a free addon on Rogers if you have TMN.

I use Cogecos commercial internet service. Works great. But costs a lot more at $99/month. But static IP and faster upstream is nice for delivering the website.

I also have both regular cable and ExpressVu. I have a few PVRs around the house that I have built and they use whichever channels are easiest to grab content from.

I'll second Look.ca for internet.

There is a lot of good information on http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/forum/ about the cable companies.

I'm in the same boat as you, but my hand will be forced to go with Cogeco because my receiver has some issues with the digital signal from the Expressvu boxes. I just hope Milton has all of the HD lineup (Hamilton for example is missing 2 channels due to bandwidth issues)

FOr those of you who have cogeco cable, what was the installation charge? I'd like an outlet in the family room, master bedrm and 1 other bedroom. Don't know if there will be any there to begin with.

When I go int to do the phone jacks, it's usually after the cable guy has already been there. In all cases I have seen 3 cable outlets hooked up, and from what I recall, this is what is included in the initial installation charge.

If you do not have cable already pulled to the rooms you want it, they will do it.. but keep in mind for second floor stuff, they may have to do it externally..

This means they drill a hole through the brick/siding into the room, and run the cable through there. I've seen this a LOT.

Pricing can vary as Cogeco runs different promotions all the time.
