You can bring your kids, but depending on their age, you may miss out on some info.
From my experience. Basically there are tables set up with your street's name on them.. find your table and sit with and get to know your neighbours to be. They have food and drinks available for you to snack on.
There will be a pretty long presentation about how the process of building your home goes down. I brought my daughter so I chased her around the whole time while hubbs took all the info in.
