| Post subject: | Ceiling fans |
Time for a ceiling fan. The floor fan is taking up too much room. I have a question though. What about the fan makes it more or less effective? Is it the number of blades or the size of blade. I have seen some fancy ones where the blades are in the shape of big leaves. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! |

The more expensive models have better designed blades that don't make as much noise to push the same air as the cheaper models... generally you get what you pay for.... try to get the best one you can afford the first time. |

I believe a key thing to look for when it comes to air movement is the angle of the blades (blade pitch?). You probably want to look at size of blades and number of blades together. If the blades are narrow, I think more would work better. Length of blades are also important - make sure you get the proper size for the size of your room. You do get what you pay for. What is your budget? I bought this one for my bedroom: http://www.1stoplighting.com/lighting/7-379-530-0-210071/Emerson-Fans_Curva-Sky---44--Ceiling-Fan-CF144.htm. It's very quiet and I've had absolutely no issues with it. It can run all day long and the motor doesn't burn out. 1 Stop Lighting offers free shipping to Canada on many items and I've ordered from them plenty of times. I find they have better selection than Home Depot, Rona, etc. I have a Monte Carlo brand ceiling fan in my living room and it's awesome. It moves around so much air and cools the room down quickly. My house came with an awesome ceiling fan in the master bedroom. I believe that it is a Hampton Bay, not sure about the model. However, let me tell you about some of the features that I would not want to be without. 1. It has a remote. The remote is mounted in a sleeve right by the light switch. I can take the remote to my bed if I want but usually it lives there. 2. There are three lighting levels. A bottom light, a soft top light (not as bright), and a combination of the two. At nighttime, I like to only put on the soft top light so that the room is not too bright right before I try to sleep. 3. Light delay. Light delay means that when I push that button, the light will go off in about 5 minutes. Enough time to get to my bed and settle in. Love that feature! 4. The remote shows the current temperature in the room. Very handy. 5. There is a feature on my remote that the fan will turn on automatically when a certain temp is reached. To be honest, I've never used that feature because I like the fan to be on all nite. 6. Finally, the reverse switch is on the remote. Some fans that have a remote do not have that particular feature on the remote itself. You still have to climb up and flick a switch. Hope that helps you make a decision. |

Haha.. your house came with an awesome ceiling fan I almost wished I had removed before I left said house.. LOL I bought it at home depot, and when I moved into my new house and tried to re-buy it I found they no longer carry it (boy was I an unhappy camper). Fortunately I don't give up very easily and tracked down buying the same model from 'KingofFans' in Florida. It actually worked out to be similar pricing from when I bought it from Home Depot even with the ~$50 to send it across the border. Its a Gossamer Windward III and its an excellent fan.
