That's troubling.

The intention to relocate the furnace and HWT is also a big part of our basement plans.

I explicitly asked about this when we bought (just 5 weeks ago) and I was told "...as long as they can do it (meaning the relocation is to a spot that is reasonable), they will. It will cost a bit of money, but yes they'll do that for you..."

We were also requesting that move and were told no as it is due to permits etc. However we were able to move the w/d and tub closer to the stairs to create the space to put up walls and enclose the area. ie:laundry room seperate from rec room. However I can not for the life of me remember where it was posted, but a lady mentioned she and her husband had kept on track with the builder and the night before the hot water tank was to be hooked up, they moved it and the builder installed it as is.
SO I suppose there are other "options" I am looking forward to enclosing both laundry and furnace etc into a room, and building a nice tabel over the sump pump. Takes creativity at times I suppose.

You aren't buying a $20.00 toaster.. this is a huge investment. If they could move them before.. they should be able to move them still. I wouldnt' take no for an answer. Kick and scream if you have to, but I'm sure there must be a way to have it moved to a reasonable place.

They CAN. Any builder CAN. It's been done countless times. But now it seems Mattamy is saying they WON'T. And apparently even Mattamy's own reps aren't clear as to what the directive is, making it that much more aggravating.

Don't give up on this one guys. Go down kicking and screaming if you have to. I know I will.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

I just did my frame walk this morning.. wasnt too happy with the set up of where the water was in relation to the furnace, where they put it.. once all is connected, I would have to jump over the piping in order to get to the electrical panel.
I was really impressed with Tim who did my walk with me. He said that he was away this week when they installed it and would look into fixing this issue.
