But Bell Fibe TV is also supposed to be launching in Milton next week..
Love or hate Bell, their Fibe TV is the best all around TV service in Canada. I have friends in Toronto and Oakville that have it and it is revolutionary compared to Bell dish, Cogeco, or Rogers.

We are going to give it a shot. They are installing early next week and I had them waive the installation fee. All I did was ask and she said that wouldn't be a problem. I will let you know how if I am satisfied shortly.

Bell Fibe is already in Milton. I've had it since September 1st. It's a bit buggy, but the image quality far surpasses their already amazing satellite HD quality.

Unfortunately Bell Fibe isn't available all over Milton yet, they've been calling me to sign up for a year, but no ETA on when it will be available (yes, that's super annoying).

I watched the youtube video but didn't see anything revolutionary.

I have heard the HD quality is superior but I would say thats it.. the whole home pvr is done by all of the other cable providers and wtf wants to update facebook from their tv.

If you are on a Bell Sat contract, can you switch to fibe? Or would you have to wait out the contract? Is it generally more expensive (channel for channel) vs their sat?

1) Installation Experience - availability, intrusiveness, etc.

2) Functionality - I am considering ordering this for two TV's where I currently have one standard HD receiver, and another on the HD/PVR receiver - I would like to be able to record/view programs on either TV interchangeably - I believe you can only record 2 programs simultaneously per end point, so if I got the 2-TV setup, I presume 4 program recording is the max? If you have a unit recording 2 programs, can you watch a 3rd in real-time (e.g. my current HD/PVR forces you to watch one of the two programs in progress of recording when 2 are recording at once).

3) Reliability - I've read some forums where users have indicated technical issues back in late 2012 - how prevalent are issues?

4) Costs - as an existing (or new) Cogeco customer, were you able to have them waive any installation fees?

5) Any Other Comments

Hi,

I have the whole home PVR from Cogeco. I would honestly just go with 2 PVR's instead of the whole home. I have only had it a short time and they had to replace the hard drive unit once already. I have also had to reboot numerous times as well.

I did get the installation fee waived as well. I honestly haven't paused a movie and gone to a different room to watch the rest of it. It also turns out to be a little more money and locked into a one year contract.

Just my 2 cents

1) no problem other than annoying installation window, as usual
2) Yes, 2 per unit, 4 in total. We only ever need 2 at once, when there is a 3rd instead of going to another TV to record, I just set it up for the west coast feed 3 hrs later. You cannot watch a 3rd in real time. If you want this, go record the two programs from another TV and then you can watch a 3rd on your main,. We use it all the time now -- instead of stuggling to keep eyes awak to finish watching a show, THEN heading up for bed, we stop mid way, head upstairs, get ready for bed, finish the show, then crash. Totally unnecessary but we make use of it :)
3) No problems yet, 3 months in. Remote is slightly slower with respect to PVR response time (like don't press jump ahead 5 times thinking it isn't going...) that's my only beef so far.
4) costs were identical for us going from 1pvr, 1hd, 2 standard to 3 WHPVR on the 1 yr promo price. After the 1yr, I'll go back to bell for a bit.

Thanks for the insights. Just curious - why a 2.5 hour installation effort? Did they need to network the boxes via means other than the existing cabling in the house? Just curious, as if a basement is finished, and if network cabling is necessary between the units, that kind of fishing and routing would be very challenging.

Uses your standard RG5/RG6 cable in the home, that's it. No ethernet cable required.

So if I already have cable, what install do they do? Does each box act as a pvr or is there a central PVR say in the basement that routes to each STB.

Central PVR (Separate item) that stays on all the time, separate from your 2 or 3 receivers.
