OK, so I have a dilemma.

I ordered a laptop for xmas from Best Buy. Not wanting to ruin the surprise, I had it shipped to the Milton location. The guy in the store said it’s usually there in 2-3 days.

Order goes through, I get the shipping notice on Sunday, and a tracking link. That link shows that Canada Post got the package on Sunday (Richmond Hill facility), and it updated to “In Transit” late Sunday night.

Here’s my problem. It’s now Thursday, and that’s the last update there was. There’s been nothing for four days. Canada Post’s web site shows 24 hour delivery with the expedited shipping Best Buy used, but the web site is not promising delivery before the 12th. It's only coming from Richmond Hill, so I'd think this would have been delivered by now.

So here’s my dilemma. I’m thinking this thing was swiped off the truck or something. Best Buy is basically telling me they won’t do a thing until the 12th. I can’t wait that long, as I need to order this from elsewhere in time to get it. I’m tempted to buy another one elsewhere, and refuse delivery when it arrives – but best buy is telling me if I refuse the order, I must pay shipping costs.

Should I wait, or is this thing almost certainly gone?

Wait.

Canada Post's tracking system is by far the worst. It is nothing like DHL/FedEx/UPS.

You may be able to get the inside line if you call CP and ask them to track it on their system though.

Wait.
The 12th is a week away and CP must be busy busy busy this time of year.
On the 12th it becomes Best Buy's problem, not yours. They will have more in other store's. Make them put one in a taxi at that time.
I think it will show up sooner though.

Hi

Every year when I ship Xmas parcels for xmas from Milton they sit in Mississauga for a week. For example if I ship a parcel to NL I only get updates when it is in Mississauga, NB and then when delivered but only after a few days after mom and dad has it.

i would wait.

I ordered a bunch of stuff from Indigo on Friday. For some inexplicable reason they split it into two packages, one that went on Friday, and the other went out on Monday. The one that shipped Monday was delivered Tuesday. The one that shipped Friday? Is listed as still sitting in Mississauga. Indigo won't do anything until 10 business days have passed, and of COURSE that's the package that has the one thing my daughter really really wants for Christmas in it.

If it hasn't at least shown some sort of update by tomorrow I'll probably stop into Indigo and buy the particular item I need (it seems to be in stock) and then save the receipt and return it if the other package actually shows up. Pain in the ass.

there's no way to walk into the store and buy it? If so, def wait until the 12th and if it doesn't turn up, cancel the order and buy it. Either way I would wait actually.

Too bad you couldn't have used UPS. It may end up stolen or in 6 pieces because the driver throws it on your porch from his truck, but it would have been here on time.

If i was you, i would wait for the item. If it comes late accept the package anyways and return it for a full refund. Simple as that....

Thanks for the input.

I'll probably just wait, and hope it's a poor tracking system or xmas delay. Normaly I wouldn't worry or just get a different laptop, but this is a hard to find laptop (Lenovo Yoga 13 - converts to a tablet). If I don't have it by the 12th, it will be difficult to find another.

I'll take my chances, and if it's not here by xmas, I'll start a small war with them.

just buy another one and if/when that one comes, accept it and then return it. They do not charge you shipping then.

It's happened to me before, no problems doing that. Their low/no hassle return policy is good for that.

Heck -I bought a camera, used it for a week, hated how it worked and returned it, no problems. Got a replacement from them which I'm happy with.
