8 horses stampede after leaving Milton, Ont., farm; 2 killed Did anyone see those 2 IKEA trucks driving south on Tremaine shortly after this incident? TORONTO - Two horses are dead after escaping a Milton-area farm and colliding with a parked vehicle late Thursday night. Halton Regional Police say eight horses escaped a fenced area of a farm just before midnight and began to stampede along Tremaine Road at No. 2 Side Road. A woman noticed the group of horses galloping towards her vehicle and pulled over to the side of the road. The horses ran into the parked vehicle, killing two of them. Police used multiple cruisers to block the roadway and nearby railway line in attempt to corral the horses. Two horses charged a parked police car, resulting in one crashing onto the rear of the car. Both vehicles involved suffered significant damage. A veterinarian arrived on scene and attended to the third horse. The horse may have to be put down due to its injuries. The five remaining horses were rounded up and returned to the farm by their owners. No humans were injured. Not cool guys. These horses were all privately owned companions and very much loved. It was a good friend of mine who was crashed into (while leaving another nearby horse stable.. I feel very lucky as I left only 10 minutes before her and drove by that exact spot), and as you can imagine it was a very traumatizing experience for her, and she is lucky she wasn't seriously hurt or worse. Her car was completely totaled, and horses can cause a LOT of damage when struck. An important lesson for livestock owners to ALWAYS check your fencing and gates. |

You’re absolutely right! I know people who have done exactly that. But deer aren't companion animals, so it's not quite the same. I don't know anyone who would hit a dog and then eat it. The girl hit was VERY lucky to not get injured, but she’s ok. But to be honest, I'm ok with horse meat consumption. But competition and companion horses are often given meds (anti-inflammatory, supplements, etc.. especially as they get older) that are NOT ok for human consumption. They're known carcinogens. So these horses will be respectfully disposed of. |

JLB: agree it's very unfortunate incident - certainly, I'm very glad no people were hurt. Even with the best fence maintenance and care, these things can happen. May not even be the owner's fault. |

Buckwheat's right accidents happen! Besides it's garbage meat, the horse's were running in a stampede. This means the muscles are tense and the meat will be tough. Not to mention eating someone pet is gross. |

Thoughts and prayers are with my dear friend Rita at Celtic Cross Stables. These horses ARE her family and I can't imagine what she's going through right now. Thank GOD no humans were hurt. A horse owners worst nightmare.....I'm in tears |

You are right - it might have been something that couldn't have been prevented... so I shouldn't speculate. Fancy that - do you know which horses were affected? You can message me privately.. my friend in the accident is just too traumatized to talk much about it. |

I don't know the exact names of the horses but I do know they were ridden and part boarded by a good friend who's on her way to pick up the group of young ladies from school to tell them now. To know the bond a young girl/boy can share with a beloved horse/pony is to know love deeper than most....unexplainable really. There are no words, just heartbreak |

Run into a PARKED vehicle so hard you kill yourself? I can understand a stampede over a cliff or take a fall in a ditch and suffer severe injuries that require to be put down....parked vehicle?? That's really scary. |

I know sounds strange, something must have spooked these horses. Trained and tamed horse's just don't run in stampede's. I'm wouldn't be surprised to hear these horse's broke the fence or something. |

Coyote chasing them? Blinded by the car lights maybe? Its really too bad, poor horses, and person to witness them dying. |
