We have found an injured cat in our neighbourhood. Waldie and JSP area. PM for a pic. We are not able to attach a pic for some reason, "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached." What is THAT supposed to mean!? Seems like a young male? cat. Coat domestic short-hair, white w. Butterscotch markings, ringed tail. All 4 paws white, front de-clawed. We have contacted OMHS, agent is responding as I type. Update Monday 9:26pm - OK, OMHS van has come and gone, taking him to veterinary care right now. Call them directly 905-845-1551, 445 Cornwall Road, Oakville. A neighbour's kid actually found the guy, on Kearns near the storm pond, near Collis? or Lowe Lane? Story from kid not clear, "near the pond". |

OK, we have decided to go to bat for this little dude. We have been in communication with the Oakville and Milton Humane Society, to follow up on the status of this cat. It seems that he has a micro chip, but the information is not current - they cannot find his owner. He has suffered a broken left back leg, and has received care to stabilize his condition, and keep him comfortable. He still needs more care, though. I do not believe they will proceed with more care until they have some assurance that he will be returned home, or find a new home. We cannot adopt him, as we are already a full house for pets. We are asking the board for assistance here - can you either: 1) Check with your neighbours about whether they have lost their cat, and direct them to this post, or to the OMHS lost-and-found department. OR: 2) Would you consider adopting this cat? We were speaking to Paula (paula@omhs.ca). Again, our neighbour's son found him where he was hit. According to him, "near the pond", meaning likely on Kearns between Collis Ct. and Lowe Ln. |

I cannot adopt him either as I have 2 cats already....but I would gladly give some money to help the little guy get the care he needs to mend the broken leg! And if he was hit by car - shame on the person who hit him and kept going. Can you post some flyers around the neighbourhood? It may be the owners are not on this board and by fluke neither is anyone who knows them.... |

Awwww, so precious. Can't take him either as he wouldn't make it past our GSD's dinner time (!) ... but like Sarah would be glad to make a donation to his care. Hopefully he finds his people soon. |

When you say that the OMHS is only keeping him comfortable, does this mean that they're not going to mend his broken leg?? |

I used to live right there. If I remember right, I think the lady who bought our house had a cat (or two)? Not sure. Also, there is a family on the corner of Kearns and Lowe that has several cats. Could be one of theirs? There are also a few "wild" cats living by the pond there, that aren't really anyone's but "community" cats, that I noticed while there as well. Good Luck in finding the owner, I hope all works out Jessica |

Hi, thanks to those who have offered help. No word from OMHS about this guy this afternoon, will check back with them tomorrow. There is no "fund-raiser" going at this time btw, don't know if thats necessary, or whether it will be. I imagine it IS possible to donate to the OMHS, but whether it will be earmarked to this situation, not sure. We'll find that out tomorrow too. What are the intentions of the OHMS with regards to his future medical care, recovery and adoption? Not sure either. But I can see from their website, they have several able-bodied cats in their system up for adoption. Again, we just want to help as much as we can, the little guy is in a bind and could use some help. We are canvassing the target neighbourhood tonight, and will print some sheets out to put on mailboxes tomorrow. Stay tuned, animal lovers. (All the non-pet-owning types are rolling their eyes.) Update, more news. The boy who found him last night has pointed to where he recovered the guy, it was on or near the grassy strip between Collis and James Snow, NOT Kearns after all. The cat was hit by a southbound vehicle while crossing JSP, not Kearns. |

Yes I spoke to Paula too. They sleuthed out the micro-chip listing, and have found the owner. She is willing to take him apparently - his little bacon is saved! She was saying his injury is surviveable, and that he should recover fine. Looked mighty grim, I can tell you. I wasn't sure exactly what they would / could do in situations like this, I feared he was done-for. I found out something I did not know: the OMHS operates a special-case emergency fund for animals in situatiuons like this, called The Charlie Fund. http://omhs.ca/how-you-can-help/charlie-fund/ To all those who expressed desire to help financially, here ya go! We are definately going to, and will continue to as well. |

Well, we did very little except to make the inital call and flog this BB. The real hero here is the neighbour's son who witnessed the cat hit, and carried him 7-8 minutes back home for help. If he hadn't done that, no story here. One brave little dude. They were not sure what to do, but we as pet owners were called over. From the time of being hit to being taken into care by OMHS was probably about 60 minutes. Major kudos to the OMHS for running such an awesome oganization, top-to-bottom. It's one of those things we're glad to know exists, and will be very happy to support from now on. (^^Use link above to donate!^^ One thing we're taking away from this is to check with 24 Pet Watch, our microchip monitoring company, to be certain ours are current and correct. The OMHS lady was saying that the cat did a door-dash on the weekend, and was not normally in the routine of going outside. I honestly don't think letting cats outside is a good idea, there are plenty of reasons why not, stuff like this being only one. Anyway, very glad for this outcome as well. Over and out. B&T PS: just loking at the OMHS site, there is an OMHS function happening in Milton this weekend, THE MILTON MUTT STRUTT & SPRING FAIR SUNDAY MAY 26TH NOON TO 4PM WALK FOR THE ANIMALS, STAY FOR THE FAIR! http://omhs.ca/news/milton-mutt-strutt- ... fair-2013/ |
