I have a visitor from Michigan and the car got a ticket last night. I forgot to submit the parking consideration. But seriously $40 for a ticket? Anyway I was wondering if anyone knows whether the Town of Milton can do anything if the ticket isn't paid. The ticket only indicates that Ontario plates can't renew plates. That leads me to believe that they can't take action on non-Ontario vehicles. Thanks in advance! |

Lol good article! Heck if Toronto can't do anything about out of province parking tickets, Milton surely doesn't have the resources for it either. |

I say just ignore it, or if you're a really nice person and like to tie up loose ends, visit Town Hall and very very politely ask for a pardon or a reduced fine. |

It really depends on the state/province Just as an FYI though MI has a full reciprocity with ON so it could cause him some grief (in general any shared borders do tend to enforce tickets as they expect drivers to cross the borders) |

Why not just pay the $40 for your guest? |

Pretty sure Canada customs will have issues when coming back into the country with unpaid tickets. This may only apply to speeding tickets and such tho, don't know about parking tickets. $40 isn't so bad. I've seen higher. Hawaii is $60 or so, that sucked but paid it (rental car tho). |

Go to Town Hall, ask for reduction since it was first time for this licence plate. Pay it, since you forgot about it, and forget it, don't wanna have small ticket causing trouble to your friends sometime in the future, that would be akward. |

You didn't expect your guests to know how Halton's parking considerations work, did you? You made a mistake so pay it for them. It's only $40 for peace of mind for you and your guests. Much better than sending them on their way with a "hope that ticket isn't $500 when you get caught. Hope they don't tow your car away or toss you in jail on your next visit." |

I was up early the other morning getting ready for our movers to arrive that day. I moved my van onto the road in anticipation of the truck coming....went back inside to continue on, and got a ticket on the van. It was marked at 5:56am. I was FOUR minutes before the parking "opened up" on the street? I must have actually moved the car at 5:45. There's no parking from 2-6am. I'm super NOT impressed. |

Thanks for the link marathonman. That was actually more helpful in terms of confirming that the reciprocal agreements don't apply to municipal parking tickets. hockeymortgagemom, that was so tacky of the parking officer to ticket you 4 minutes before street parking opened up. I suppose at least the ticket we have is from 4:09am. Will you dispute it? |

Town employee working right until the end of his/her shift. I hopped into a bank once in Windsor while I was in school, was only 2 or 3 minutes and I got a ticket. I took a chance and lost. Same thing happened to you. |

They usually will not forward to collections unless balance for tickets is high enough (I heard $300) http://www.attorneygeneral.jus.gov.on.c ... _fines.asp Also be careful as some provinces (eg Alberta) will actually issue a violation ticket after 365 days of not paying a parking ticket (and that is a provincial offense) http://www.servicealberta.gov.ab.ca/2096.cfm A provincial offense will go against a US driver (it even can be a reason to deny entry to Canada in the future!) After the news stories about Toronto tickets do not be surprised if we adopt a similar system |
