Hi Guys,

I purchase the Executive membership which is double the price of a standard membership. I purchased it hoping I could get back what I put in if I spend enough at costco as they give 2% cashback. Besides this incentive they suggested that they provide executive only coupons, although I will only get them after 1 year of membership. Curious if you can share are the coupons you get after worth it as well.

Do you guys just get the standard membership. I dont run a business so I dont usually buy lots of stuff but when I do drop by its like I end up dropping 200 - 300 there LOL.

I'm so annoyed with Costco after liking them for a while. Something wacky has happened in the last year...

I ordered something off costco.ca and it came in 2 boxes. Only one showed up one day and it looked like someone had opened the box. 2 days later the second half came. This is probably just UPS foolery.

My wife was convinced by the girl to upgrade to executive.. she told her that she'd be getting $30 back for our initial order since we were spending ~$300 -- well on our way for paying for the $50 upgrade. Except, $30 would be 10% and they pay 2% but she had signed up before I was paying attention (2 kids!). I find it really hard to believe the girl does't know how the program works or doesn't know math, but who knows.

The last 2 times we've gone they've said my membership expired back in June. I say, thats strange, I upgraded to executive in October.. why would I be able to upgrade an expired membership. "Oh, that was reversed' they keep telling me.. and go wait in the big line at member services with 2 kids that are ready to lose it after spending the last hour at costco. I told them to figure it out and call me back.. of course.. no call..

Strange because service was really good years back.

We have the Exec Membership.
I never really look at the coupons but it's worth it for us
I get a good size check back from them

You have to calculate how much you think you will spend there in a year
x2%

See if the cash back is higher then your membership

I had exec membership, and I cancelled it, and went back to the standard one. Not much difference, it is just you have to keep calculating the 2% to find the break even point ... to me it wasn't worth it ... but for people who use Costco a lot, it may be worth for them to upgrade.

let me know if my math is incorrect...

You have to spend more than $2500 a year or $208 a month for the Executive membership to be worth it.
$2500 x 2% = $50 Rebate a year.
Executive membership is $50 more than the Standard Membership.
So if you spend more than $2500 a year, you will be paying back the extra $50 of the executive membership and the rest is gravy.

Costco also gave me the exec upgrade and I took it for the 2% return.
3 years have passed and I have yet to see a penny from them. I spent on average $2000 a year mainly on meat. I now go to a local butcher that sells meat without all that b/s they give these animals (hormones, antibiotics, etc...) as a result costco lost my business. I hate liars.

Costco automatically sends you a check in the mail a few months to your membership expiring, if you didn't get at least a $40 check based on spending $2000 then you could have called or visited the customer service desk.

For us, executive is worth it. Yes you get several additional coupons in the mail, our membership gets paid off with the check each year. Last year we tried getting hunter douglas blinds and shopped around, nobody came close to what costco offered...talking of about $3k difference...and then the additional 2% that was mailed later..nice.

hey if they're treating you well and the prices are good then keep going there. As for me, I complained several times, they keep saying they mailed the cheques. I still don't know what these cheques look like. Fool me once, shame you. Fool me twice and I will wipe my ass with your coupons.

Backyard hero -

Not sure if it's any consolidation - but i *thought* they had forgot to mail my cheque as well. What happened was it was sent with my "annual renewal paper" - i initially was about to throw it out as I renew in store - then my wife noticed the cheque in there!

Andrew.

Exec + Amex is a killer (and for those with old card, DON'T upgrade it; the new True Earnings card is only worth the upgrade once you spend more than $50,000 per year, otherwise the old Amex gives a better payout)
If you don't have the credit card option get it (payouts are better than any other free credit card available today, and even better than some paid credit cards)

Even basic exec is worth it (it sounds high but if you ever visit there you can easily spend $200+ in a month without breaking a sweat)
Most people could use that much on gas alone and never set foot inside the club

I am easily consoled. They don't send me anything anymore. I confirmed my address with them. Then I asked if the cheques were cashed, but they could not give me that info. I only found out about my renewal fees at the cash. I don't know if they're sending the cheques elsewhere, or they think they can take advantage of me because I don't own a ginormous business. Either way, I'm over it. I only went there mainly for meat and a bunch of other stuff I had no idea that I was going to purchase. I urge anyone to try something once.

What are the odds?. My wife comes home with the mail and guess what I got?
A cheque for $32.23 redeemable at costco. Do I feel silly?..... No, am I sorry for wasting your time?......a little. Carry on, nothing to see here

Good win, feel free to use your new found fortune on a much needed 12 litre jar of cheese whiz.

If you get a cheque for less than they difference in membership, they will refund the difference. Take the cheque in to customer service and get your money back...
