I recently got a cold call from Bell where they presented me with a pretty insane cable package that basically chops my current Cogeco bill in half. I'm not in a position where I'm going to cut the cord just yet, so I'm staying on with a cable service, but I'll be honest in that I'm a little reluctant to jump to Bell. So my question is: Has anyone had any luck in calling Cogeco and having their bill reduced by threatening to leave? If yes, what did you get? What can I expect? Let's hear your success stories! |

I call every year with my fake offer from Bell. If you have internet + cable from Cogeco they will probably knock off $15-20 off their rates, but they won't match as far as I've found. I find most people get sucked into the Bell vortex not realizing the pricing is for 6 months or for 1 year of 3 etc... |

I'm a little disappointed in you Martin. You come across as very intelligent person. I consider you a dear online friend. I thought you would have realized that it's way cheaper and more efficient to hypnotize yourself at your own leisure. Watch what you want when you want...... STREAM my friend. Cause neither bell or cococaca give existing customers the same deals as newbies. And that sweet deal is just to set the hook. After a year you'll feel the tug. |

We called to cancel about a month ago (30 days notice), and aside from waving rental fee for digital box, there wasn't much in the way of deals. So we cancelled. They didn't try very hard, but thats OK because I actually intended to cancel and save some cash for the poor programming and moving to more online streaming/on-demand stuff. I must say, the best part of the entire Cogeco service was when someone knocked on my door last night to collect my cable box to save me a trip to return the box. |

Shame to hear that they won't play much ball by the sounds of it. |

All the providers will offer discounts if you threaten to cancel, but those deals can be pretty meager unless you bundle. I have a friend at Cogeco, and even he can’t do crap for me unless I bundle. He gave me a $50 credit for some data cap overages I got one month, and the only way he could do it was to claim I called and complained about service issues. Bell is offering you a temporary rate, and will probably want a 3 year contract. It’s a trap. Just cut the cord. It’s like quitting smoking really. You’ll hate your life for 3 months, and then adapt to the new reality and wonder what all the fuss was about. |

That is a worst case scenario, it will take less than 3 days to realize how much you don't miss Storage Wars. |

I did it every year for 7 years. They reduced it by $20-$25 per month, then after a year, I had to do it again. Got fed up - went with Shaw satellite, Start.ca and Primus voip and I'm at $130 taxes in for all services now, without having to haggle every month... |

prickly_pete wrote: Just cancel already. You've been talking about this for a year. It's awesome, you get to have conversations like this: "Hey man did you see pawn stars last night?" "Go f**K yourself" "Hey have you seen that xxxxxxxx commercial?" "Shut the f**K up" Haha... I have a feeling those conversations actually take place. |

Careful with Bell and their promises. I swore I would never go back. They pestered me every week with fibe offers. Finally they came up with an offer for better service at almost 1/2 of cogeco. why not??? I thought - if it will save me money. So the guy shows up - works for 2 hours outside and then comes to the door and says - For fibe to work you need at least 25megs down. He could only get 15 at best. I asked him what that meant. 1 tv used 5 - 2 TV's uses 10 (Which we often have on since there are 5 of us and everybody likes something different). Start using the net as well and tv pictures may get messed up, net will be slow.... He said I would have to try it to see if it worked well enough for us. So I said I would try it but no way am I signing on for 2 years for something unknown. He said that I had to call in - after 15 minutes of talking to Mrs. Stupid and her dumber boss, the best they said they would do is one month free and I had to sign up for 2 years with potentially sh*t quality. Not a chance. I hung up on her and threw the bell guy out. 3 more months of bell cell phone and I am done. learning the ins and outs of streaming as we speak - hope cogeco is done by summer once I figure out all my hardware. BTW - when I called cogeco the cancel when I was going to try fibe - their answer was "OK". Didn't even try to keep me. Can't wait to be done with them. Now I just have to find a good fast source for internet. |

Ha, I guess since cancelling, at some disclosed time when we weren't home they came by and installed a filter on our line. I couldn't figure out why my internet (via Start) wasn't working all last night or this morning. I went out and opened up the box and found the filter. Got rid of that and back to normal. Sneaky buggers at Cogeco. |
