Ah, you know what it is? It's that weird curvature of the earth thing. I'm used to looking at a map of the UK where anything directly above you is north...doesn't work the same in Canada :lol:

I guess what both our maps are missing is the North pointing arrow. Looking at my map, Milton does look like it is south of Toronto except that I know that that "up" on the map is east and "down" on the map is west.

That is definitely something that is missing from most internet maps. I was given directions the other day that the parking lot was on the south side of the building...with no frame of reference, I couldn't tell you which way is south, I'm just planning to circle that building till I find the parking lot! What ever happened to 'turn left' rather than 'turn south'? ;)

It is in historical difference between Europe and North America.
In Europe lots of cities were build in the radial order. Castle in the middle and all roads are going as radios in 360 directions. This is why left and right is working.
It North America lots of cities were build by the grid. Streets were going South-North and East-West. This is why it is more convenient here to say west instead of right.

The most terrible city to navigate in the Western World is Basingstoke in England.
They have round abounds. Circle roads with many exits. And nothing else. Take two of them one after another one and you will be lost. Left-Right, South-North doesn’t work in this nice city.

Milton is West 31' South 9' (that's minutes, fractions of degrees, not feet) from Toronto using Toronto City Hall and Milton Town Hall as reference locations.

When we were looking to move to Milton we did a test run to Mississauga Dixie Rd. and Eglinton and it took 15 minutes. Of course as has been pointed out that was late at night. In the morning during rush hour figure on 45 minutes plus!

There are a lot of cities in England that are nasty to navigate. I have relatives who got stuck on the Coventry ring road (road that runs around the city of Coventry, oddly enough) and couldn't figure out how to get off. Personally, apart from London, the nastiest area of Britain I ever drove in was Swindon, with the notorious 'magic roundabout' - more than 5 small roundabouts where the exit of one goes straight onto another one, then another, then another, so you're trying to watch so many lanes of approaching traffic your head spins. Fun.

My friend in Milton is working near by the airport.
He has to avoid mess at 401 many times by taking Steels.
Of course it is not 15 mins in the real live for him. But Toronto Star isn’t about real live.
Our office is on the ninth line north from Steels. Well before Georgetown. This is only one 15 minutes location to get here from Milton I know.

Send them to Coventry….
Ha... We were driving back from Liverpool to Basingstoke and stopped in Coventry to admire the auto museum and Church near by. While trying to continue back from Coventry to Basingstoke we realize we were driving back to Liverpool. It is still the biggest mystery in my traveling experience.
