So i go to start my mower last weekend and it's not starting.. it's about a year old.. and the warranty company is backed up for 3 weeks and there is no guarantee that it'll be fixed under warranty..

its a cheaper ariens push mower with a pull chord from home depot with a briggs stratton engine..
i am assuming i didn't empty the gas enough and it went stale or the carburetor just needs some cleaning.
worst come to worse i can just replace the basic carburetor parts and hopefully get it working again.

problem is can't find one locally... i went to home depot, canadian tire and walmart... unless they were all lying to me none of them have the full kit.. maybe a smaller B&M shop around town...

anyone know where i can get one in town??

90% of issues with lawn mowers are caused by bad gas. It is likely you need to clean the main carb jet. You really don't need a 'kit' to do this.

I would try the following:

1) Pickup some 'Quick Start' at Canadian Tire. Pop out the spark splug and spray some inside the cylinder. Attempt to start the engine. After 5-6 attempts, It will probably stay running.
2) Get some carb cleaner(Canadian Tire). Remove the carb and clean.

There's tons of videos on Youtube which will show you the steps required to clean a carb.

hey thanks ; >

that is what i am assuming.. the gas didn't drain all the way when i stored it... i'm gonna try cleaning the carb before i do the repair kit route .. but i just wanted to know where i could get a kit if i did need it same day..

by quick start do you mean the high octane spray? and ur saying to spray it into the spark plug hole and replace the sparkplug after spraying?

Quick Start:

Yeah, sorry. You will need to replace the sparkplug before starting(which I forgot to mention ;-))

IE:

1) Remove spark plug cap.
2) Unscrew sparkplug(counterclockwise)
3) Spray some 'Quick start' in the 'hole'. Start with '1 second' worth of spray and gradually increase.
4) Screw in sparkplug clockwise until it is hand tight. Be careful here, hand tight should be enough to start the mower. Once it is running ok, I wouldn't go any more than a 1/4 turn past hand tight. If you strip the holding thread, it will be a very costly mistake.
5) Pop on spark plug cap and proceed to start engine.
6) You may want to experiment with the choke on/off or different throttle speeds(depending on how your mower is set up).

Clamp hose with vice...use needle nose pliers to remove tube and then drain gas into bucket.

Then clean that carb. There is probably a build up of crap in that bowl, and the needle too. Very easy do it yourself fix...here is a link. Will take about 25 minutes.

(I've cleaned about 15 machines, including dirt bikes and snow blowers - worked like new every time)
