Just yesterday I pushed the button to lower my driver's side window and it won't move!!! Am I screwed or is this fixable? Seriously it is one thing after another with my Dodge Caravan!

Take it to Paul at True Tech, probably something simple.

Does it make any noise at all when you push it, or just silence? If silence, you can check the fuse that controls the power window switches, or most likely, it's the circuit board within that power window switch cluster that's worn out. Shouldn't be too expensive to replace, or can be found used from a wreckers if it's an older Magic Van.

What a bad day to not be able to roll down windows. Hopefully your AC is working. Also consider buying Japanese in the future.

Hold the upto or down button and bang under it on the door panel to make it work. A mechanic showed me this trick to use until I got it fixed.

If it's making noise but the window isn't moving it's your window regulator that's shot. It'll cost you a couple hundred $$$ (for a new regulator + labour) to get it fixed. It's not hard, probably a 1/2 hour of labour and most of that is in getting your door apart.

Hi Richard, yes I can make the passenger side window go down from the driver's side. Unlike in the winter, when the windows were frozen shut and I would get a motor sound when trying to open the window, I don't get that sound.

most likely a bad switch.

if it was the regulator, you'd hear the motor and the window would "drop" the few inches until it makes contact with regulator.

I've had good luck with scrap yards for these kinda things. If i recall, last time i replaced a switch, it was about $10. Not sure what it'd cost if you buy it from the dealer

edit: if it's the drivers side window and you have the 4 window button, switch the window cables with another to see if it goes down or not, and that would point to a faulty switch

i doubt it's the motor as i've not seem those fails. if it's a regulator, there's a wee plastic roller thingie and those are prone to fall off or break from the track

One other thing, if it's a vehicle with a young sort of higher mileage. It's not uncommon for wiring to become brittle and break inside the rubber boot in the door frame (near your hinges). Years of opening and closing the door takes its toll.

Perhaps it's the actual motor that needs to be replaced. If it is it's easy enough to fix. As someone had mentioned earlier it'll be getting the door apart that will be the biggest part of the job. After that it's a couple of mounting bolts and some connectors for your power. I'm thinking it's the motor over the switch as you said you can still control the passenger side. If it were a wiring issue I'd think the problem would be intermittent rather than constant. Hard to tell without actually seeing / hearing it.

Motors are connected to the window regulators, and they rarely go. I still think it's the switch cluster. I had an issue with my switch cluster back in the spring where if I rolled down the rear left power window, it wouldn't go back up using my driver door switch. It only went back up if I used the switch on the rear door, so I replaced my driver switch; problem solved.

It's usually the contacts on the circuit board under the switch cluster that wear out over time.
