I'm thinking these "fines for leaving signs up" are either non-existent, or very small. Maybe the fine is expenseable - he'll just make us pay for it. . |

Way to go Pete. Just for that, we're getting another red light camera. |

Apparently we only have one by-law officer, and these things are handled on a complaint basis only. I see a temporary opportunity to hire a part time 3 month contract to attack these things the same way the parking guy does (all signs and bylaw infractions) -- and see what income is generated as a result. (Hey it's friday night and there are open house signs out for the weekend? Hey great, I can get interlocking done, but that is actually hanging from the stop sign and is AS BIG AS the stop sign... etc etc..). There is a 3-month study that would actually generate some revenue! IF it breaks even or makes money, great. If it runs slightly in the red, that's ok too as things are cleaned up. If it is a money pit, then shut it down. People might actually start following the rules a little more |

The town should require all candidates to put a $5000 deposit down prior to erecting any signs. If any signs are still up after the takedown window the deposit is not returned. |

Another great idea. Some may call it undemocratic as it would be a barrier for entry, so drop it to $1000 and I agree wholeheartedly. |

Losers will start putting up signs of other people to cost them money. |

File under not shocking: Deol sign still at Market and Martin and Steeles and Martin. There's a Boughton sign on Steeles as well. Rick or Zeeshan, what are the fines? |

The By-Law to regulate election signs (011-2013) requires every owner to remove his/her election signs within 72 hours immediately following the election. The By-Law also includes a section for the Town to recover the cost for the removal of election signs placed on public property. The User Fee By-Law for Sign Removal has a per unit cost of $58.00.Rick or Zeeshan, what are the fines? So fine is $58 per sign... |

$58 bucks? Is there any fine in existence for Joe Public that’s under $200 anymore? This sounds like something somebody would get outraged about on AM radio. Is there at least a victims surcharge applied on that fine? |

Can I pick-up these signs and collect the $58? |

Is there at least a victims surcharge applied on that fine? Most bylaw fines Joe Public gets are sub-$200 Other than parking infractions or not maintaining property what else would a homeowner do wrong? The mandatory victim surcharge was declared unconstitutional way back You a tad behind the times, you can actually fight it even on a guilty plea now http://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-new ... -surcharge |
