Post subject:  Which fitness club in Milton has the best overall value

I'm thinking of joining a club in Milton that I could work out at after my drive home around 5:30pm. I see there are the 2 biggies Goodlife and LA Fitness plus a few smaller independents around. Just looking for some input from those of you already members. I dread the "I'm looking to join" phase as the sales pitches are always grueling. Want to arm myself with some user knowledge.

Thanks
AB

Good question! I'm with LA and overall happy with them but I find their facilities are getting more and more dirty (the men's locker room is always dirty and unkept)...a minor thing but something to consider still. Oh and when something goes wrong at LA (hot water goes, or pool heater goes...seems to take a long time for them to fix the problem).

Look for corporate discounts
If your health plan or company deals with a gym you usually get much better rates

Plus you avoid the pushy sales people that way

Goodlife is a great gym, but crowded as hell. Just go try the free trial for a week at peak times – 5:30-630 and you’ll run for the hills.

I really like it at LA. I find it extremely clean, but I avoid the changerooms, so maybe I am not seeing something. Every time I have ever gone there, there are two cleaners actively cleaning something. Machines are repaired promptly. My complaint with LA is that there are a couple popular machines that they need more of – you can never get on the row machine for example. And there are no pully attachments. They have like 1 straight bar and two ropes for the whole gym. It’s stupid.

If you don't need the flexibility of getting access to multiple Goodlife locations across the GTA, you can go to the Milton Goodlife and buy a Milton location-only pass for about $30-$40/month tax in. Inquire. This is the membership I have. It's a small location, but they have enough equipment without being a meathead-type environment. I've been there for years and feel comfortable there. I also like seeing some of the familiar faces over the years even though we've never exchanged hellos, lol, but it is starting to get busier there, and at peak times, the gym smells like a$$.

Shop around. LA Fitness will be bigger and more modern with more amenities (when they are operating).

We have been happy with Goodlife for years, and I love their classes which are the main reason I go. I would never go after work however, and always go early in the morning because it is so small and it gets crowded and hot.
I would say if you need to go at 5:30 then count Goodlife out, but if you can go before work I think you may be happy there. It is a nice community atmosphere and you see the same people all the time, which makes you feel more accountable and makes it a more comfortable atmosphere.

My exact experience at LA.

When do you go? There is a female trainer there I see in the evenings who I'm in lust with. She's got long black hair that is smooth like silk and is super fit. Not too over the top muscle fit, but that perfect mix of fit while staying feminine. She's unbelieveably nice too when you hear her talk to her clients.

After hitting the gym for a few months, you should change your screen name to ABS.

I think I know who you’re talking about. Super straight hair, sorta hides her face. Shes skinny yet fit. Glued to her phone when she’s not training. I think everyone has their eyes on her.

If you want to pick her up, there’s some great tips here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBvHbnhl3M8

I’m usually there Tuesday/Thursday nights after 7. Say hi if you spot me. Tall, goatee, half sleeve tattoo on the right arm. Sexy as hell. That’s probably enough to pick me out of the crowd.

Abs are made in the kitchen, munchie.

but made glorious by exercise. Come by and wash your clothes on my abs anytime, no homo (maybe 48%)

And you can hang them to dry on my built in towel rack. I even even hang your heavy sweaters. 52%

Thanks for the member feedback, I'll try to get passes to both GL and LA and see. Seems like I may need to change my plans and go later in the evening or early in the morning. Motivation may be harder though.

Speaking of harder, it seems that many threads this week have careened into "big bamboo" territory? Was there a funny smell in the air this week or was there something in the water?

Getting back to topic, does anyone belong to a club other than the the two discussed already?
