Well we have new neighbours with a dog. I've never seen them out walking, but must be out for a late-night leak. At least I presume it's the dog doing this.

I don't think I want to make an issue out of this, but I just want them to choose another tree. Getting sick of seeing a large and growing pile of bright yellow snow on my tree base, I have to shovel it into the street.

I see a lot of different products around, what are your experiences? I don't want to get into some of the border-like abusive ones like pepper sprays or the like. Are there any ones that mimic wolf or lynx that would change the dog's decision making process? Also, whatever it is would need to be effective in sub-zero temperature. I don't think I'd mind this as much in Summer.

BTW: no cat could ever do this.

Cayenne pepper but it might be difficult to apply in the winter

Just piss on the tree yourself. The dog will smell you and find a new tree.

Be thankful it's not sh*t that the dog is leaving behind.

A slingshot, but don't be cruel to animals, aim it at the owner!

Is it the tree on the boulevard next to the road? In that case, its not your tree, and belongs to the Town.

If its on your lawn, I would just say to the neighbour that you don't want to complain, but would they would mind if your dog didn't pee on your lawn. I don't know of any dog owner that wouldn't at least attempt to find another tree and pull the dog if he lifts his leg.

I find it hard to believe that a little yellow snow would bother you enough to research and then purchase some kind of repellent.

Really?

That’s annoying. There’s nothing wrong with a dog pissing on your tree, but having it happen every day and having to look at that yellow snow? That’s a totally researchable nuisance. I’d do it.

It will eventually harm the tree. We had this happen to our maple on the boulevard.
Once one dog pees there, they all will. It is pretty gross.
I don't understand why people walk their dogs over to anothers lawn/boulevard to do this. Let them go on your own lawn.

I would talk to the neighbour and see if they will spread it around.

My dog when I got on walks will piss on tons of trees. I would never actually "take him for a piss" to a neighbours lawn, that is just weird, at the same time as much as I would love if my dog spent all of his time on the walk trotting like an angel beside me on the sidewalk he tends to pull here and there.

I think if you asked nicely, they would probably try to take the dog the other direction or try to keep the dog off your tree as possible.

Install extreme bright motion control flood light...it will help, I believe.

Get a dog and train him to pee on your neighbour's tree.

i don't think it's a big deal.
but if you are so worked up about it, i'll second the cayenne pepper. but then you have red powder on your snow.
