Hello everyone,

Looking for some recommendations in regards to the companies that provide water heater rental service. I prefer to rent than buy one. I've heard for Reliance, but are there any other companies out there? how much is an average monthly rental fee for water heater equipment?

Appreciate the help.

DirectEnergy rents them, but I don’t know if they service Milton.

Reliance charges me about $30 a month including taxes. You only get a bill every 3 months.

I don’t understand why anyone would willingly engage in this scheme. Any tank will last 10 years without any maintenance. Your total cost over 10 years is $1,000. Your 10 year cost with a rental is $3,600.00. It’s actually higher as they regularly increase the rental costs.

Direct Energy will do Milton.

That being said you have 2 good choices in Milton.

Direct Energy and Reliance.

If renting is what you are going to do my vote goes to Reliance. Their rates are lower than direct energy and their service for me has been top notch.

I moved to Milton in Aug 2013 and since then had two issues with my Reliance tank. Their customer support was prompt, pleasant and fast.

My first call I made them come here on a Saturday!

Two issues already may sound like a lot however it was on a tank that was previously rented by someone who truly destroyed a 13 year old house. House was built April 2001 and by the time I took it over in 2013 it needed as much work as a house from 1974, However that's another story and yes was worth it...

A Reliance guy a few months back tried to persuade me to join Jehovah's Witnesses. No kidding.

Haha!

My Dad had a buddy back in the day who was super nice and could just never say ‘No’ to anyone. Not a guy who was ever going to find god, but just the type who couldn’t be rude if his life depended on it. One day his wife comes home to find him praying in the living room with a bunch of Jehovahs. They talked they’re way in and he didn’t know how to get rid of them. lol

I think I'm paying about $84 quarterly to Reliance for rental. We're planning on moving soon, so buying one doesn't make sense. If you are planning on staying in your home for a while, buying probably makes more sense. I believe with Reliance there's a service component to it as well, but I'm sure there are HVAC companies that would offer some type of service plan with the purchase of a water heater if you want the peace of mind that it will be taken care of should anything need to be repaired.

A typical Direct Energy rental will cost you just under $30/month.
