I'm not sure what type of capacitor is being used for the AC but Sayal is a good place to start. The closest branch I know is the one in Mississauga. Another one is in Burlington. Check their inventory in sayal.com.

Any other places besides Noble? Wollesley? My capacitor just kicked the bucket, and I might soon start sweating buckets. :x

Thx JP. I got an appointment for tomm thankfully.

What's the average house call cost to replace such a thing? I'll need to get cash ready. The repairman called me on his day off and i didnt want to pepper him w too many questions.

Cap for ac is probably like 80 bucks, plus another 100 or so to install/test it.

Really? I paid a fortune to get mine installed, but it was very much needed given the season.

Not all AC units, and therefore parts, are created and priced equally.

If you're like me and have a Carrier POS, remember to apply lube.

Noted. Otherwise, you need to apply lube elsewhere before bending over when it breaks and needs fixing.

I have a Bryant unit. It has been phenomenal. First time it's given me a problem as an 11 year old system.

My AC died on that first hot sunday we had a while back it was like 32 out.

It was 3 pm on a sunday.

I popped open the area where the capacitor is located and saw it bulged. it was a 35/5

I was like great sunday 3 pm and I need a capacitor now what.

I drove to the Lowes parking lot in hopes an HVAC contractor might pull in looking to buy something and 15 mins after sure enough I see a van that said Air Conditioning repair pull in. I walked up to him asked if he had one. He had to check and said they cost around 40 bucks. he ended up having a 40/5 i said thanks ill try it, I gave him 60 cash went home put it in and all has been good.

Now I know about the rules of going 10% up and blah blah blah I also know when these capacitors are built they are +/- 5% and with time they minus. since the 5 gain was on the fan motor side I took the chance and I guess I got lucky

You are one resourceful skinflint! I'd have just hired a pro and made it safe and done right but that's just me.

Only reason I did it this way was I was back up and running in an hour.
