Hi Andrew
There is no plans at present to widen the #401 through Halton yet although there is an Environmental Assessment process going on for a proposed widening from 6 lanes to 12 lanes in Mississauga from Hurontario to Mississauga Road that the City of Mississauga is pushing for those reasons.

The Province consistly states it has no money for large highway developments at present although the Places to Grow legislation for another 2 million people in southern Ontario in the next 30 years shows the Province need to spend Billions on transit and transportation arteries.

Have a Transportation Advisory Committee next week discussing the other two proposals that may affect Halton. The Niagara to GTA corridor proposal which may cross north Milton near Acton to connect the Guelph area with highways #410, #427, #400 and #404 similar to the #407 to act as a bypass around the GTA. Also there is the Halton-Peel corridor study for a possible highway connecting with the #401-#407 interchange and proceeding north to Georgetown and swing around the north-west developing area of Brampton to connect with #410 and take the pressure off 9th Line and Chinguacousy Road.

Will get back to everyone with any news.

I find it incredable how poorly designed our road system is.
Compared to Europe we are in the dark ages!
Soon enough it will be quicker to ride your bicycle to work.

It's great for all these new people to pay taxes, but to spend it on something worth while like the roads to get these people to work to get the money to pay those taxes is another story.

Just venting!!!
Regards
Martin aka stuck on 401.

Europe has been addressing those issues since the days of the Romans.
Someone should do some research and address the roads here looking at Europe (although their roads need to be wider).

The only reason Hurontario to Mississauga road is so busy is beacuse of the dip there by thge credit river. I am not sure more lanes would help but if they bridge or build up that little ravine the traffic would flow alot better. I am sure the tree huggers will be against that though...
