I'm curious too. I'm thinking less general merchandise since they've been struggling with that. Or maybe it just means new store layouts. I'm just excited its opening. |

The footprint of the Milton "Real Canadian Superstore" will be smaller than others in Ontario. At least this is what they told me earlier when I called their customer relations at 1-866-596-7277 to ask them more details on the new Milton store.If you try to squint and read between the lines, they're sort of implying that in the Toronto Star write-up when they say Toronto Star wrote: The larger than usual food stores, which also carry general merchandise, have so far underperformed. Loblaw said it expects to open the first modified version in Milton in August. but if you call them and ask about the modifications they point out tell you that modified means smaller.

crap. I LOVE the superstore....and love buying all of the general merchandise in there as well....great for one stop shopping, birthday presents, general house stuff, etc. etc. I am so disappointed...especially as I also see that the HomeSense that was supposed to open jointly with Winners in the old Loblaws isn't to be either....... ugh! Jessica

Great another smaller version of a store. The Home Depot is also a smaller store I can't count the time I have not found what I was looking for there. |

Ok, I work for Loblaws...and here's my 2 cents. Milton (I don't think) could support a full-sized Superstore. Most of them (like Oakville) do upwards of 1.2 Million a week in sales. I mean, Milton is bigger, but come on... Plus, as mentioned, the big push for GM stuff has lost our company SO much money, so they were going to do an overhaul on GM anyway. Not so much invested in stuff like furniture and electronics, but they are going to push Joe Fresh, cuz that's the one success story. PLUS, no one wants to work at these damn stores anyway, cuz they cut our wages to pay for these stores AND "compete with Wal-Mart". lol But don't worry folks, I won't be transferring to this store. 
Believe me, this modified size will be just right for Milton. |

Well, it looks like I'll be continuing to drive to Meadowvale. I'm already sure that the prices will be higher in Milton. |

Do you know how many MILLIONS of dollars they have lost with these Superstores??? lol They have to try something, refurb the stores so they dump the crap that's not making money, and push the stuff that is! I work at a Mississauga (conventional aka. dying breed) Loblaws, and even WE are supposed to be refurbished (to bring in some Joe Fresh stuff I believe, but I will have to comment on that when the time comes). BTW, you guys do know this is not the first time Loblaws has tried the "all-in-one" shopping experience, right? Anyone remember SuperCentre??? lol hmm, and how many of those are still kicking around? Bigger is not always better, not to mention customer service is gonna go out the window cuz being in the company, NO ONE wants to work in these new stores for less money and crazy hours. lol How happy would you be? There new store idea (which honestly I think makes MORE sense that the RCSS) is the Great Canadian Food Store (aka. replacement for conventional Loblaws stores). They will be higher end FOOD stores ie. Loblaws lol, but without the GM (which is where they are losing about 99% of their money). Don't get me wrong, I love working for Loblaws, but for the work I do, I deserve the wages I get, and no amount of "buy-down" will make me any more anxious to hop on the Superstore bandwagon. lol And about Wal-Mart...haha, I probably shouldn't... (if you want my Wal-Mart opinions, haha just message me) |

RCSS prices will be the same in all the Western Division stores. (All the way to Collingwood) |

There is a pent-up demand for a high volume, low-cost grocer in Milton. RCSS will have to keep it's prices low or they will get hammered by the Food Basics and the new Walmart grocery addition. To be honest I don't know how the population can support all of these new centres coming aboard. |
