| Post subject: | BBQ Natural gas line Installation? |
BBQ season is finally here. And I still don't have the natural gas line to the backyard hooked up yet. Anybody know a certified/licensed gas line fitter that charges reasonable rates? I'm tempted to go around the nearby construction site and hook up with an installer who happens to be on site doing the gas lines for the brand new houses, but that's too much work trying to time it when they're there. I inquired through Home Depot and they advised me to go to my ng supplier as they charge too much. I called Union Gas and they told me they don't do gas line installs anymore, not like Enbridge. What's a reasonable rate? I know they charge per lineal foot after a certain minimum length of that expensive copper tubing. Any recommendations will be much appreciated. You're welcome to come over once I have my bbq setup. Jonah |

We got a quote from Terry Rowley Mechanical (our family uses them a lot for air conditioners, duct cleaning, extra fireplaces, etc.) and they quoted us $250 to run it to the backyard. It's worth getting a quote from them anyway, they're at the NW corner of Main & Thompson but they drop by your house to check it out and give you quotes. |

We had a line installed last year with 2 shut-offs outside...one for the BBQ and the other for an outdoor firepit...they used 3/4" steel(same cost if not cheaper than copper)..I believe it cost us $280 cash...I am having a brain fart, but I believe Appleby Systems from Burlington did it. |

I just finished getting mine connected. However we did the installation ourselves, and only had the guy come to connect both ends, one at the source (near the furnace), and one at the rear of the basement (through the exterior brick wall). We ran the flexible copper tubing in the basement, and installed the black steel pipe through the rear exterior of the house to the backyard ourselves. Labour for him to do the connections, test and certify the installation was $185 (including GST). Parts I had to purchase including 2 shutoff valves(1 by the furnace, one outside), 1/2" copper tubing, misc. black steel pipe, piipe joint compound etc. cost $100 (including taxes). I think the price for the guy to come and connect, test and certify was a bit high, but really had no choice. He was the only place we found that would do the final connections for us, with us doing the rest. Since they put there name next to it, they prefer to do it all themselves, (plus they make more money that way.) We would have done it all ourselves, but didn't want to risk it since it could be a bit of a problem if there was ever a gas leak. Prefer to have someone elses name whoc is certified next to the installation. Photos can be found on our website, under "House Projects > Utility Installations" |

We did ours ourselves as well, hooked up two connectors, one in the backyard and one just outside the garage as we like to BBQ in the winter and still stay warm  . Cost was about 200 or so for supplies then we called Union Gas and had them inspect it.
