I'm looking for something that would provide me both internet access and phone service. Forget TV watching for now. Just phone/internet.

So far the only low rate I'm seen is Primus? They have a service that combines Local Home Phone, and High Speed Internet (using DSL) for 34.95 per month? I couldn't find any hidden costs. Are there any? i.e. extra fees for the DSL line?

Cogeco seems to be very pricey (i'm with them now) and difficult to get home phone / internet without the TV added on. Ends up being $82 per month because they force you to take the TV?

Vonage has a $19.95 home phone service plan but then I'll have to get the internet elsewhere, and I probably won't find it for less than $15 all in if I want highspeed.

Rick,
I checked the Primus deal and they are not giving you the real hi-speed internet. It only goes up to 512Kbps and what rogers/bell/cogeco give you is 3 or 5 mbps I think. I am not sure what sort of features you like on your home phone but a basic phone connection from Bell is $19.95 I think in Milton and then you can get 3 or 5 mbps internet from one of those third-party internet service providers. They just resell Bell and Rogers at half the price. I can PM you some names if you are interested to go that route.

Just an advce when looking at internet speed for VOIP: the most important is the upload speed as this is what carries your voice to the other party and it is not what is published by the providers.
