is it normal for water build up in the tube? i noticed in the loop there is water that just sits in there, maybe not even water has passed to push it through? is it normal for the water to stay stuck inside that tube? also noticed water backing up in the tube from the furnace |

Yes, water should sit in the loop from the HRV. The loop is meant to keep air from being sucked up the tube from your basement. John Allingham Owner & Certified Home Inspector Halton-Peel Home Inspection (416) 254-5869 inspect@peelhomeinspection.com http://www.peelhomeinspection.com |

The "condensate loop" acts as a "trap" similar to any drain like below a sink. That loop is specifically required because your condensate line drains to the floor drain on the basement floor. If any smell was to come from the floor drain then that smell could not migrate up into the HRV ventilation system. Some condensate lines drain into a black plastic tube close to the basement foundation wall. These black tubes also go under the concrete floor to the floor drain. HRV condensate (water) is a result of the function of the HRV. As we all know, |

A pretty good graphic, although most exhaust ducts aren't sloped down ![]() John Allingham Owner & Certified Home Inspector Halton-Peel Home Inspection (416) 254-5869 inspect@peelhomeinspection.com http://www.peelhomeinspection.com |
