I have been with Primus VOIP for over 10yrs and no problems. I have recommended it to a lot of people and got my family members on it as well. I know there are cheaper versions out there but Primus has been good for us. We aren't ready to cut the cord completely and go cellular(but I'm close to making the leap)

One thing that I am not sure Ooma does is the mobile calling app.
So with the app on my cell, I can call anybody in the US and Canada for free using my home phone number using data on my phone or free on wifi. When I travel to the US I don't bother with call plans anymore. I get a data plan for the rare occasion I don't have a wifi connection.

Vonage had the best mobile app (you pay one fee and can use unlimited calling at home & on 2 different cell phones)
Last I looked they also had the $10 per month promo back as well

If you want real cell service have you see Sugar yet?
https://www.sugarmobile.ca/
Unlimited service on WiFi, 600 North American cell minutes for $19
Even if not using it as primary phone it works great since includes Canada / USA roaming

Why pay? Convoi is run by Citrix and is free. Check that one out. No cost for calling across America. Not only that, you can use the Convoi number to text and send picture messages.

All at no cost...

That's a rather presumptuous assumption I think...

It'll probably come to android soon enough

As of 2015 (we shall see when new numbers released but I suspect Apple did not get a huge lead, most Canadian Blackberry holdovers more likely to go to Priv)

"When it comes to operating systems, Google’s Android rules the Canadian landscape with 50.5-percent of the market share and this up from 44-percent just a year ago. Apple iOS increased 1.3-percent from the year before and comes in at 38.3-percent – of course the same percent as their phone percentage. All other OSs – BlackBerry, and Windows Phone – control 11.2-percent of the market."

2 out of 5 versus 2.5 out of 5.

Still pretty damn close.

I have been using VoIP.MS for about a year now. No issues with call quality on their "value" plan. I pay by the second for calls and with rates currently at USD$0.005/min within Canada and USD$0.01 to calls to US. You have to talk a lot to get above USD$10 per month. If only calling within Canada USD$10 would give you 2000 minutes. I also pay an additional USD$2.50 per month for 2 incoming numbers, and the e911 fee. You'll have to buy an ATA adapter if you don't already have one. I picked up the Cisco ATA SPA112 on Amazon for CAD$50 so that paid for itself within a couple of months. Once you have the adapter you don't have to go with VoIP.ms for the calls, there are many other providers. I have heard good things about Callcentric too but happy with VoIP.ms for now.

Not sure exactly what you mean by "interference", since this is all digital but if your voip connection is poor, it's your bandwidth. Vonage is voip so your call quality is directly related to your internet bandwidth. That said, for all we know Cogeco in Oakville might be "traffic shaping", de-prioritizing Vonage packets to make you think about switching to Cogeco home phone (although this would be anti-competitive and illegal).

If you run a bandwidth test like speedtest.net and you get anything north of 3Mb's up/down (which is trivial), you've got enough to cover a voip call. If you are close to this, your problem might be other concurrent use at that time (is someone watching Netflix at the same time you are making a call?). If you have >3Mb and nothing else is using your connection other than your voip call, and you still have a bad experience, the problem is upstream - either the ISP is throttling your voip packets or Vonage is having capacity problems at their servers.

I'm in Harrison (just west of the Milton hospital). No issues with bandwidth or Vonage quality whatsoever.
